experimenting a bit...

The other night, post a conversation I had with Tom (JBN) about speakers with grills on versus sans grills...got me to thinking. So, I pulled the grills off my speakers and it made no difference in volume or brightness...but it DID make a difference in focus and clarity!
So, for the time being...they'll remain off!

In my experience, very few speakers don't sound better without the grills - but a few sound better with them.

I know you talked about those speakers before. Could you refresh my memory on the drivers used? :) Nice floors BTW.

The woofers are Human (Huw Powell) PRO-005...the tweeters are now discontinued Pioneer hybrid cloth and paper. I have three extra just in case!

See, the only problem I'd have is that those speakers would sound better with the grills on than they would once the woofers were accidentally kicked in, cat-scratched, or dog-whatevered.

That ain't gonna happen here...no katz...no dawgz...and thankfully...no rugrats….

Everything looks great as is but have you experimented with speaker stands? Some open wood frame ones like you see harbeths on. Maybe a couple Victorian slim side tables?

The woofers are Human...

sounds like dialogue edited out of the script for a bad remake of Soylent Green (or, perhaps, Rod Serling's To Serve Man)...

Raising the speaker high off the floor will always kill bass response.
What matters most is that you’re happy with your current set up. If it doesn’t bother you then you’re golden!
I only mentioned it because I had my 4410s on slanted speaker stands that were only 4 to 6 inches off the ground. Although they projected up to me, it did kind of feel like the music was coming from the floor.
On bass reduction; the speakers current bass output needs to be sufficient to even consider stands.
The stand type and height does affect wether bass is transferred to the ground or swallowed up (This isn’t an absolute either).
