Feeling a little blue.

Well not really. I just like teaser threads. I sold off the Reference 3A De Capos this week. They were holding down the fort in my office. I currently have the Zu Audio Omen Dirty Weekend MK2's hooked up, and they are really exciting and very good... but they should be leaving tonight to a friend of mine. This is going to leave a little gap until something new and interesting shows up on Monday. They are little. Blue. New. And hopefully pretty exciting...

That is enough for now. I will post more when they arrive. For now, here's a pic of my office as it sat with the De Capos. With the back of my wife's head during a Saturday morning vinyl listening sesh.

I’m a bit jealous about the new owner’s receivership of this DeCapos. Enough of you with established good taste have praised them enough to make a lasting impression on me.

Great photography skills by the way. Is this a phone pic (they’ve become so good) and if not, what are you using to capture such a great image?

They are on their way to a new owner in Connecticut. I'm sure they'll be loved.

Thank you for the compliment. This is shot with my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I do think a new iPhone 14 is in my near future. It has a light, in-phone, edit job.

So they are going to be Blue and arrive on Monday?

Hey, that reminds me of a couple tunes.

Not ALL blue. But yes, they arrive Monday. Damn it... huge missed opportunity for a great title.

One more hint for today: They will fit pretty nicely on the existing Sound Anchors stands.

Blue baffle only? (thinking JBL 4301 or 09’s if so).

You guys are pretty good at this game. I guess I should have started out with more vague clues.

Yes. JBL 4309's. I'm pretty excited about them. I think for my preferences, and current associated gear, they might be a pretty great fit for me. Plus... horn loaded. You know I'm all about that life.

Glamour shot.

I’m super excited to see what you think they sound like. I am biting my time to try some of jbl’s newer offerings (being a bit of a JBL fan). I’ve enjoyed my journey sampling several 43 series models and always thought that the blue baffle was a unique, yet simple design aspect that made them look super cool!

Yeah... my main concern is if they are what I hope... it's gonna make me want to move up the line... and that first step up is a DOOZY!

I have a friend with a pair of the full size (and pricy) JBLs similar to these. He doesn’t settle on most gear that crosses his path, and he has owned some exceptional gear- yet he’s had these upper end JBLs for a very long time and isn’t considering moving them along. That to me speaks volumes on their performance and quality of sound.

I’m sure these are going to be spectacular.

Congratulations!

ICTWoody, waiting for your opinion of the JBL's cause like you I like the 3a's

I'm kinda suspecting that the 3A's may still be the more natural speaker... but I think I'm finding I like speakers that are a little more lively. I'm curious where they land. These do check a lot of boxes for me on paper though... and they certainly kill the DeCapos in a modeling contest.

Oh, I imagine that’s a flexible and highly personal, relative definition.

For him, I’d say a year would be substantial, and a long time, 2+ years. He’s beyond 2 years.

For me, probably 3 years would be substantial, 5+ years would would be a long time.

I’m pretty happy I’ve hit the 5+ mark with lots of stuff, with little interest in upgrades- however I sure love to tire kick and window shop.

That said, I have a bit of wanderlust over these 3a speakers Woody sold, after all the high praise from the golden (or at least silvered) eared members here. They just have to be something special.

This is what concerns me. They were totally impulse bought as a stop gap between the sale of my Harbeth's while I was waiting for the Meadowlark Kites to arrive from Prime Minister and Pat. They were just going to slot in to my listening/media room rig until the actives arrived. When the Kites showed up I moved them into my office with no real intention of keeping them long term. I had to try really hard to not re-arrange the whole system around them. Because of this, I am 99% sure I didn't hear them at their best. I never even hooked them to tubes... which by all accounts, is when they REALLY shine.

I guess I have a bit of wanderlust too.

I'm such a visual person. I will admit that some days I thought they looked very cool and stealthy... and then I'd look at the Kites and realize that I wasn't a huge fan of the aesthetics, and it's sometimes hard for me to get past that.

Oh those JBLs have looks and I’m sure a sonic profile that matches. I don’t fault you for changing things up.

And if you have the means and ways, why not cover all the bases? Why not be happy?

I’m excited for you, and cannot wait to hear your impressions.

And just think- a year or two from now you may be revisiting this post with their bigger brothers…🤠

I am excited to hear how these JBL's work out. I have wanted to hear more first hand experience of the current JBL offerings. They have quite a few that intrigue me, these being a prime candidate! The 4349 and of course the classic series have been on my radar but I've never been close to pulling the trigger because I haven't known anyone with first hand experience.

We will all be watching as you do the lord's work.

I like the looks of these, can't wait to hear your impressions about them. They look a lot like some of my favorite speakers.
