I have been thinking about the decision to hold off on the Spectral repair. If the incoming Cart has some life left, and doesn’t sound like it is crying for help. I may live with it and learn a bit more about its character before sending it out. I honestly just don’t know. Good thing I have no real need to rush to a decision either.

In the meantime, my copper weight is developing a lovely patina. I was tempted to polish it back up and have it coated. But I am tempted to let it tarnish a bit and see where it goes. I can always polish and seal it later. As long as it doesn’t turn green I guess?

That’s my “damaged” copy of Jackie McLean “It’s Time” that was slated to be returned. The Dynavector Te Kaitora Rua plays it through! I’ll be damned!

I much prefer the copper weight with a bit of patina, I doubt it will turn green on you as it's handled regularly. Very nice looking setup.
I hope the new cart surprises you and has a lot of life left in it. I don't know what the previous owner stated but sometimes you get lucky.

Ok....I have no discipline and had to throw it on with a simple mirror protractor and set to 2g’s. It’s pretty!

Figuring optimal Loading will be fun with this. Definitely not the same as the Te Kaitora Rua! Sounds lovely so far. Set up was relatively painless. Bill Evans’s “Another Time”, was the inaugural record.

So far it’s presenting very large and deep sound stage. Bass is a bit more refined. Highs a bit less harsh. Like the Rua, it tracks like it’s on rails. If this is what it sounds like tired, I am seriously impressed.

The Dynavector character is very much evident through the entire range. The XV-1S has everything the Te Kaitora Rua has and adds a bit more scale and dynamic range on an even quieter background. Another thing coming apparent is how quick and clear it sounds. I am pretty impressed so far. If this pushes the Rua over to the Micro, the Lyra Lydian may be in trouble! And that Lydian isn’t even back from VAS yet!

Is a good profile shot possible? I'd like to see how close it rides to the record surface.

Where do you find all these killer cartridges???

would you believe me if I told you this one came from eBay? I invited the seller to join our merry band of audio banditos. It is also fair to say that I lose out on more than a fair share. I went aggressive on this one as it is the Cart I originally wanted and was prominently on my must own list. Admittedly, that list is a lot smaller today.

That's bold!
I have a hard time buying used cartridges from folks I don't know.
