If you want the ultimate sounding Rumours, then this is, far and away, the one to get. The one I have is the single lip version, but the double is a notch better. If you want to impress you non audiophile friends as to why you deal with an outdated medium, just play Chains. After they pick their jaws up. They will get it.

Hoffmann - yeah, I can see Steve doing a super job with the tracks. When I listen to my Canadian pressing I can hear some worthwhile effort hiding in the mush so I'm sure there were some good track to work with. I guess I'll have to try to track that one down. I don't think I need to go all crazy on 45 RPM. For me it would be probably overkill for 70s pop.
I bought the single disc version from HMV on Yonge Street way back when for $25. The two lp set was $45 iirc. I’m not huge fan of swapping sides every 2 tracks, so I went with the cheaper one.
I'll have to start a hunt. Ya know, the vast majority of my LPs sound really good on the system I have these days - some much better than I imagined they might, but here a very small number just don't. Rumours is an LP of lots of energy and the pressings I've got just suck it all out. I had a CD as well and it was amazingly even worse. It got one play and was given away to a thrift - kinda felt sorry for someone as I did it, too.
That must have been the original CD release, and yes it was terrible as were nearly all Warner CDs of that era. If you spot the now out of print 2004 CD reissue someplace, don't be afraid to grab that one (it was a 2-disc set with bonus material), it will get you 90% of what the DVD-Audio or subsequent SACD provides, assuming a competent Redbook CD player does the spin, really quite good.
Yah, mine was one of the first-generation CD releases and man, most of them were horrendous!
Really kind of surprising the format got off the ground as well as it did, given the horrendous sound of most CDs back then. Forget about whether your disc player was any good, it hardly mattered when the discs themselves really just sucked. It took quite a few years years for that to change.
