Ford Launches an All-New Mustang - Kind Of.

Speaking of displays… oops.

Really?

Who'd have thunk it.
My dad had an 86 Mercury Sable, on which the tach died. Actually, I think it was blown by a lousy dealership tech, but the dealer would help with the repair. As it was a few hundred 1980's dollars, my dad passed on repairing it, and the car ran that way for the rest of its long and reliable life. Not a possibility with those newfangled cars.

Rover did something cool way back when in the Carter years with its SD1/3500. They made the top of the dashboard somewhat ambidextrous, so that they could mount the instrument binnacle on either side, depending on the needs of the market. Smart and efficient.

Why do modern non-sports cars have tachometers? Guessing automakers design office wants them for symmetry.

Saw one of these in town today, not unusual to see expensive and unique vehicles around here, but this one was at a welding shop

instrument binnacle.
Now there's a term.

On (ish) topic: I remember that the early Toyota Tercel Yaris had a somewhat similarly configured dashboard. The instrument binnacle was located midships, and could be installed tacking either to port or to starboard depending on the market. :smoke

Well the Yaris is so small that anything in the center is still directly ahead of you.

This is the "base" 2024 Mustang GT setup in red with manual transmission.

The only option on this car (and it's a good one) is the black accent package.

This looks like a lot of car and performance for 42 thousand american dollars.

The new dashboard, IMO, is a big upgrade over the last model.

It almost looks like an automobile inside -- other than, you know, that TV set in the middle of the dash. 😬
It nearly makes it into the category of cars I could buy*.

You're in, just take the present value of that $41k of yore and you have the car and a pile of change too!

Those Fiestas of that vintage were wonderful.
