Garage sale Krell Showcase.

Congrats on the SCROE!!!!!!! :dance

I considered buying one of those off the bay a few years ago to use for 2.2.

Congrats!
Maybe we should start a forum on audio deals from yard sales and thrift stores. That would be something unique.
I don’t think you’d like my participation in this thread. One thrift find was an in the box Aesthetix Calypso for $25. This was probably 10 years ago.

Alright I was at my mom's out of town all day for mothers day yesterday.

The person whose mom sold this to me was apparently an A/V installer according to her so this was obsolete gear. I've never seen something like this laying in the grass before lol. I actually bought a NAD 216THX the next block over last year for $40 which was subsequently given/long term loaned to a friend who was showing interest in a real stereo vs. his sonos setup. Interestingly I was lamenting giving him the technics preamp because I did need another one for my garage (Yeah spare me the snickers haha) so maybe the Krell is karma replacing it for me.

Honesty I have no idea if it even works. It sounds a bit wacky but once my detached garage is done with renovations I plan to run this with my Soundstream DA-1 and the rough pair of Thiel CS3.6s I have (after I repair them). I use my garage audio system more than the one in my house. I am going to sew covers for the CS3.6s that I can slip over in case I am creating metal dust or anything that could damage them.

All those other vintage scroe threads read to me like, “Guys! Guys! I actually found a vintage piece for what it’s actually sonically worth!!!” Don’t hate me, I was one of the worst partakers in that world.

As for this one I bet there’s a slew of settings that need righted before it sounds “normal” but if all’s well it should sound pretty good in stereo. What are the video inputs? Curious how old it is.

Not quite as good as a Krell preamp-processor for $10, but a few years back I did acquire an Anthem AVM-30 for free because the remote board stopped working.

(currently the preamp in my basement system)

Unfortunately I did not get the remote with it. As far as age, it's got Svideo and some other antiquated switching. I am sure S video tells you what you wanted to know. lol. Rumor has it there's some sort of bypass arrangement when it's in stereo mode. I presume the weak link of something like this is the A/D - D/A conversion inherent in the design. It does have digital inputs which is kind of nifty. I think it's from about 2003-2004.

Unfortunately I did not get the remote with it.
You will probably need a replacement IR remote, as Krell conveniently left the Menu button off of the front panel, I believe it's only found on the remote control.

The crazy part is this unit actually has an IR emitter, meant to output the IR codes to a Universal learning remote, yet you can't access that function without the Menu button, so back to getting a replacement remote for that or any other need to access the on-screen displayed Menu system.
