Good excuses for bad equipment

Looks like an old HK560. I used to have the HK500 and HK505 separates from that era . Of course that was a few decades ago, but I never considered them bad.

I don't need anything like my main system for listening to music in the kitchen whilst cooking and this sounds just fine for the purpose.

I use a JVC mini system tucked into a cabinet, with Boston A40s atop cabinets out of sight. Plenty good enough for some background noise while trashing cooking in the kitchen

It really is pretty nice and a good match to the PSB speakers. The analogue tuner in it is excellent and performs beautifully in a spot in the house with wicked multipath problems.
