What was the fix? New laser pickup, or new mechanism/drive, or something else entirely?

It had developed a mechanical buzz. I had it “repaired” but it never stayed in that state for long. I resolved that it would remain a pretty but broken doorstop. But the transport buzz ended up being mechanical in nature. It’s playing flawlessly now.
These are a very rare bird outside of Japan. The Onkyo Scepter F1. Had to do a small repair and a deep clean. Grills need some cleaning also. But they are here, acclimating.

Sad thing is. I hate that Rug. One of those it looked better in the store buys. The initial pictures of the speakers and seeing them in person was also very surprising.
I was going to write some notes on the Scepter F1’s. But they appear to still be loosening up. They sat in a climate controlled storage space for some time. When I first got them here, I had to repair a tear in one woofer surround. Wish I did it a bit cleaner, but it is not visible from the listening position. I will start the hunt for replacement surrounds in Japan at some point.
I had assumed these would be easy and not fussy for placement like my Monitor 2000x. I was very wrong. Upon first play, I was not wowed. But I figured they would need some play to catch their stride and loosen up. Which is very much being proven to be the case. However, the sound stage and bass were off. Bringing them closer together helped a lot.
Had I given up early. I would have placed the 2000x’s back in and call it a day. but they are blossoming slowly starting to reveal their true selves. So I will stay the course and get better acquainted. There is one more development in the home stretch. An actual preamp is on its way! I cannot wait to introduce it to you. I will update on the speaker once it is done stretching out.

In the system. Doing a little bit sniffing.
The Onkyo G stack sitting in Dry Dock. Will be headed to the techs for some minor repairs and switch cleaning. Just waiting for my turn in line. The Grand Integra G components are truly a lovely set, that deserved so much more press than they were given. Having the Levinson here has also shown me just how good the A-G10 was as a preamp.
Have you tried any tube rolling yet?

Placed the power units back in their own spot in the cabinet. I definitely prefer them there. Even if I can’t see the values anymore.
