Hi all,

It's been a long time since I've been on audio-related forums but someone reminded me of this place so I decided to drop in.

Here's my system:
Custom Altec 604s with custom grills.jpg20200410_023959.jpg20200901_091720.jpg

Those are Altec 604-8Gs in custom made 13 cubic feet cabinets, original from the 70s. I designed and had made the grills you see in the picture, and I handbuilt the crossovers (Jeff Markwart phase-corrected). Powering them is an Adcom GFP-750 into a GFA-5802. I also run a distributed bass system with a miniDSP as the brain. When working properly it's phenomenal..

I've been into stereos since early 2012 and have had a myriad of different equipment, but I think I'm finally at the point where I don't need to keep looking for gear. I have other interests now that keep me busy, but, I still love to listen to music on an awesome stereo. So, I think this is my landing place until my wife and I fulfill our dream of full-time RVing :D

Anyhow, I'll be poking for some help potentially as I futzed up one of the crossovers. The HF circuit doesn't measure the same and the speaker sounds hollow.

Thank you for having me!

Welcome (from a fellow Altec owner)!

One idea on the crossover issue - it looks from this photo as your connection on the paralleled AEON caps is different):

Not sure if that might be the issue (not being able to see how everything is connected up on the other side of the perf board).

I do have it wired up correctly underneath. I got lazy on the second board haha. The issue is in the HF circuit and have checked them over many times, they are definitely wired up the same. I think it's a component but, you never know.

You may have already done this:
Swap speaker connections (left to right), swap the crossovers, this should help trace the problem; crossover, speaker or component.
