Hello From Seattle

Then you and I are going to get along just fine. That was my #1 movie as a kid growing up. Anytime that would show up on TV it was a big deal.
I saw that during the original theatrical release when we were on a family vacation in Hawaii of all places. I still revisit it once in a while. The film, not the Aloha state.

Peter, I really enjoyed reading about your system. I like some older gear too. Custom Tannoy 12" HPD's, DIY Garrard 401 table, and, best of all, a 3C24 that member Paul Birkeland built for me. Oh, I'm from Whidbey Island (Oak Harbor).

It will serve me well until my end of days.

Welcome!
Dan

Hooray for Whidbey's !!

(I can only think of one thing when someone mentions Whidbey Island)

Welcome!
How do you like the ALTEC 604 in K-15 cabinet?
I used a 605 in a K-15 cab & ran mono for parties by the pool (only had one cabinet).
Powered by VTL 80W P-P monoblok. Sounded good.

Hey Dan - thanks for the warm welcome and sorry for the delay replying - was traveling for work all week. Glad to find another local HiFi aficionado ... I've never heard Tannoys before but understand them to be pretty epic.

Yep, I imagine my gear will be running long after I'm gone - comforting.
Happy Friday.
Mike

Hey Tim - its pretty darned nice. I believe the 604 was one of the speakers the K-15 was designed for. Once I got my preamp figured out it helped a lot. I think it colors the music slightly more than a 612-like cabinet but it's enjoyable. Mono from one speaker is a different experience, especially for critical listening ....

Good morning - My name is Mike (not Peter Franks - Peter is a discrete fictional character who's life doesn't end well) and one of your members reached out to me thru a CL ad I placed and told me about this audio forum - looks like a nice place. Thought I'd say hello and show you what I'm into. I've been into vintage HIFI for about the last 15 yrs and have two systems - one a dedicated mono system and the other stereo:

Stereo
Fisher KX100 - was my father-in-laws who gave it to me before he passed. He bought it new in c1964. I did a total recap and restore (I do my own work). Still has all original Fisher branded tubes.
JVC QL-A2 turntable - It's great and I love it.
Denon DL-110 - best all around cartridge and stylus for the money in my opinion. This is my second one.
Altec 605Bs - Epic speakers from 1965 (date codes within a few weeks of each other). Mounted in cabinets dated 1961 and near the same internal volume as the Altec 612s.
Sony C77ES - CD player. I love CDs.

Mono
Altec A-339A Melodist Amplifier - picked up at a junk store cheap. Totally rebuilt and new cabinet made.
DJ Pre II - phono pre-amp - The preamp in the A-339A leaves a lot to be desired when matched with my mono cartridge. I think it is better suited for a vintage cartridge and not the new modern day stuff. The DJ sounds good.
Sony TTS-3000A transcription turntable/plinth - from c1968. Picked out of a junk bin.
Grace G-545 Tone arm - came with the turntable.
Audio Technica VM610 mono cartridge
Altec 604C mounted inside a Karlson cabinet
- 604C re-coned/refurbished by GPA.

Running a Sansui 7070 + KLH28 speakers in the family room.
Spares: Sansui Six & Eight, Sherwood S8000 (fulling recapped and overhauled by me), Eico FM tuner (father-in-laws)
This is my story and I'm sticking to it.

Thanks for having me here.

nice equipment. That classic equipment looks so cool

Welcome aboard Mike! We are neighbors (Idaho). I always fail to look at this welcome section.
thank you! ID is not far away. My oldest daughter goes to WAZZU and I have business in GEG so we are over in the part of the state a bit. Love Idaho, and especially the northern part of the state.
