a Goldmund mimesis 3 in the Dragon Den on loan for a demo from an audio buddy of mine. This is way above my pay grade level sound. And unlike my Krell.....it’s tiny!

I love borrowing good stuff. Sort of. I have a pair of Nordost Freys on loan and they make my Swift’s sound amazing. The dang cables are worth more than 3 to 4 times the Swifts. I’ll be disappointed when I have to return them soon. Sure is fun while I have them though.

Yeah. This is Tim’s amp. He stated that this amp would cause me to sell the Krell. I am putting his statement to the test.
Some pics to give you an idea of the difference in size.
I am not ready to compare this to my Krell yet. I really want to give this thing a real run. But I can say that the Goldmund really grabs you from the first note. Once it warms up, it really starts to jam. How the heck did they get this much good sound to come out of such a small amp? I am really digging it.
So, I have been playing this amp for a few days now. When I first started listening to the system with the Goldmund, I immediately noticed the change in sound. It was not subtle at all. There was a feeling that the music was a little more fleshed out. Now that I have been listening for a bit longer, I can confirm that this amp is very holographic with the sound it puts out. It is a little warmer than the Krell, but not romantic like a tube amp.
I admit that it is really good sound. It may be the most musical amp I have ever heard. It is fast, responsive and really highlights the entire spectrum. I don’t feel that it leaves out anything. It plays fantastic at low to mid volume. It gets a bit warm at higher levels. I suspect that the Aerials are just at the right sensitivity for this amp. This amp would not pair well with my former Infinity RSII.
If I had to find a critical point, it would be that it is rated for 100 WPC @ 8 ohms and 200 into 4. I mean compared to the Krell, it’s the size of a postage stamp. But I do miss the loss of power and shear attack that the Krell has. I mean in fairness, the Krell is ginormous in comparison. It is not a slight difference. While the Goldmund has no problems driving the Aerials loud, It does so politely. The Krell just dominates not only the Aerials, but any speaker it is connected to.
I am comfortable in stating that the Goldmund sounds better than the Krell. But for me and my listening habits, it may not be the better amp for me. I like to jam sometimes at concert level. The Goldmund can do it. But as well as the Krell? On the other hand, the Goldmund weighs a fraction of the Krell and is able to fit in the stereo cabinet, if I wanted it to. It’s nice to not have to harangue an extra person to move the Krell. Not that I move it much. I still have more time to figure out if the Goldmund will make me put up the Krell.
I really do love the Krell. But the Goldmund is on another level. And I cannot keep both. The Krell would have to finance the Goldmund. What a terrible first world problem to have. In the meantime, the music keeps playing.

It’s size and overall form factor is very appealing. The sound of it is really good. Definitely worth considering. I don’t think I can give this amp back to the owner. The wife asked me what I did to the music? It sounded so much better. That was from the kitchen. My listening room is in the basement.
Don’t tell the owner that he’s not getting it back!
It is soo roomy here all of a sudden!
So to wrap this thread up. This is indeed not going back to the owner! Its mine.....all mine......muhahahahaha.

May I suggest a 1U rack from Audiorax. I like the ones he built me for my EARs. Pretty reasonable too. He'll do custom depths and face profiles etc...
