My Listening Room

So a couple havenites have had buildouts or new homes coming. The tie in is the listening room. (please shift if in wrong sub forum).
on my end I finally had my foundation poured (rain delayed the whole project a good three weeks). If all goes well, we “should“ have framing happen next week.
Whats the progress on your home project? Any advice or warnings?

So my builder does not offer insulation of interior walls, as such they will allow me to apply my own preferred material. I’m thinking the denim stuff recommended by @marantzfan will do nicely. Also keeping an eye on @Olson_jr thread for additional insulation materials. More to come....

I’ve used the denim in speakers, but can’t say one way or another how effective it would be for insulating interior walls in a listening room.

Interested to see what others opine on the matter.

I have a friend that did a pretty elaborate media room in his build, with professional designer and set up.
They used the denim in his walls, so I think you would not be going wrong here.
I used some of his left over in a bass trap, it is easy to work with.

So there’s lumber on my driveway so framing next week looks mighty promising! Walked the found and it seems a bit small, should get bigger once it’s framed out. 10’ ceilings so there’s a good @mount of denim insulation I’ll be ordering.
my listening room will be between a bedroom and laundry room so definitely going for the thicker stuff! I drew in some not to scale lines more or less outlining the listening room too.

It always seems small when stand on the slab with no framing, I member that feeling well.
Glad your progressing, it exiting and some what stressful though

Very exciting and stressful for sure. The design center has been interesting for sure. Hopefully we have sticks up end of week.

Congrats on the new house. Don't know what type of weather you have in your neck of the woods at this time of year, but some good friends of ours found out the hard way not to build in the winter months (where we can have some harsh winters) . 15 years in to their new house and they're already having foundation issues and concrete separation in the garage.

Thanks! Residing in beautiful Arizona. Where I reside we need not worry about snow/ice. We also have a more modern post tension slap to reduce movement/cracking.

Nice. Definitely looks like AZ. Sitting in bed freezing at the moment. Time to go to work.

The weather has been wonderful and this is when we become the envy of the rest of the country. from my midweek visit the framing was 75% done, can’t wait to see what things look like this weekend. And a vague pic:

Insulation always helps. Really depends on how much you're looking to acoustically isolate the room. There are more intensive approaches (installing the drywall on furring channels) but, as with everything, more intensive means more expensive.

I agree, updated the prior post pic. There is a laundry room to the right that worries me a bit. I’ll talk with the GC to see what he can do to keep noise from bleeding in.

Got ya. I'm guessing this is on the ground floor/on the post-tensioned slab? I've never looked for it before but the real solution might be in decoupling the washer/dryer from the floor assembly. That's where you're going to get vibration and noise.

Definitely what I had in mind, theres also the running/draining water. They are running that pex/wirsbo plastic pipe and abs for drains.
hoping to see more progress tomorrow.

Um...the middle one is defying gravity. :P
Yeah, it’s reflective of that point in time; things were going sideways fast with the builder.😅......on the home stretch now. Did my final walk (which was not so final; a good few items not completed on the punch list).
