So... y'know, I have this dump find Optimus branded (Radio Shack) dual well cassette deck that's outlived many of the better, and worse, decks around here and still gets used when I feel, like, you know -- taping something.

I "knew" this deck was Pioneer OEM. Lots of Radio Shack "hifi"/HT was at the time.

So far, so good.

But... tonight, I'm mindin' my own business, perusing eBAY, and I stumbled across a pretty nondescript Sony dual-well deck.
I kept lookin' at it... and lookin' at it.
It's not Pioneer identical (but, one might say that it's Fukuin close*).
Awfully similar controls (buttons, switches, and whatnot). Very similar displays, too (based on what I can see of the Sony's).

My dump-find Optimus.

It's Pioneer morph.

... and the aforementioned Sony:

Am I bein' all A Beautiful Mind/ bat-feces-crazy here? Seein' patterns where none exist(ed)?
Or was there a vast, dual-well conspiracy in those latter days of cassettry? Was -- I dunno -- Funai makin' these things for everybody?

Enquiring** minds wanna know.
____________
* This is a terrible pun which will be immediately evident to all truly hardcore Pioneer fanbois and fan-umm-notbois. :)

** Or is that Inquiring minds... ?

Direction Change Sale

I mean, I,ve got the affect/effect thing down. I rarely screw up sit and set, and I pretty much throw in the towel when it comes to lay/lie... but this enquire/inquire thing may force me to turn in my grammarian medallion and epaulets.

(are those Phillips head screws on that epaulet? :p

It always seemed to me that there were only really about two models of dual-well cassette machines, but then I never really got friendly enough with any of them to catch the nuances.

I hadn't been under that impression -- but now I am.
(at least towards the end of the genre's popularity)

Correlation or causation? Not sure. ;)

My dog has eyes, nose, mouth and ears in the same place as mine. We also might be the same. I sometimes think we are.
This may be a little too abstruse in this context, but this is a slide (check that -- two slides) I use in a lecture on "comparability" of biotherapeutics.

Here's one take on the subject:

and here's the one your post reminded me of, @JohnVF

That reminds me of something I've often thought about. How is it that we know a dog when we see a dog, when a Dachshund and, say, a Bernese Mountain Dog look less alike than a Yorkie and a Cat? But we know the Yorkie is a dog and the cat is a cat, immediately.

Oh, and this is my slide introducing "biosimilars" (the industry's term for "generic" biotherapeutics -- which the regulatory agencies and the industry realized weren't really "genericizable") :p

The S-type was such a strange looking car. I briefly worked on the Jaguar account back then...the XJ was a much much better car. The XJ-R was NICE.
