One cone was blown so I replaced them both with aluminum cones from amazon . the original working cone has a brown clear membrane surrounding an aluminum dome. I think the original sounds a bit smother, not as aggressive . I'm hoping to find an old pair of covers for these guys. Is that allowed ? Thanks Spikeme2What is the driver cone/voice coil material color?
Silver = Aluminum.
Brown/Tan = Phenolic.
I was guising 806's as well because of the horns. thanks for the input, it all helps.Looking at the body alone, they looked like Altec 800 series drivers, likely 806’s if they were on 811 horns.
These guy's have hade rough life . I'm looking forward bringing them back into proper spec. Even as is they sound superior to my Heresy's.Since the rear covers are missing probably doesn't have the original diaphragms. I did fine some 8G's attached to 811's in some beat up 1205's. Original diaphragms, one had a broken repairable lead. So you never now.
I'll post more pictures when I learn to do it on my own.Might help to further narrow down the possibilities it you remove the loading cap and take some close ups of the diaphragms.
Like this on tbe left? That's exactly what I took from my drivers. Assuming they are 802-b's are there diaphragm's that you prefer for this kind of use ? By the way I've been misrepresenting the horns the drivers came from. There 511-b not 811's. Sorry, old and now diclictic too?Welcome to the Haven.
Based on the crinkled paint texture, the color shade, the body shape, the three small mounting holes for the missing cover, two-hole Altec mount, these look nearly identical to my pair of Altec 802-B.
Can you share a closeup of the drivers? They don’t look like 802B’s to me. But then again, it might be a grainy pic or it’s my lowly phone.That's exactly what I took from my drivers. Original 802-B, 802-C and early 802-D use the 20275 diaphragms. I do not have sufficient experience with modern replacement diaphragms to make recommendations.Assuming they are 802-b's are there diaphragm's that you prefer for this kind of use ?
Let me second that!Welcome to the Haven!
