How Musically Adventurous Are You?

I started this thread to find out a bit about how members feel about venturing out of their musical "comfort zone" and trying new area of music.

To start it off I will begin......

Normally I am to be found in the Rock, Progressive, Folk racks in life's record shop.

However I got curious and wandered into the classical section and started looking at and listening to the Baroque music of from approximately 1600 to 1750 . I have really enjoyed what I have found so far......

How musically adventourous are you and what is your "comfort zone" and what is the area you ventured to?

In my youth I listen to primarily hip-hop or rap music. I had light exposure to Led Mozart/classical, Zeppelin/classic rock, Shania Twain/country, Frank Sinatra/ jazz/trad. Pop and elevator music/modern jazz as they called it. At first I did not care for most of it, but this exposure is actually what helped me to be well rounded and increased my love for music. It also made it a lot easier on long road trips with people that didn’t like just hip hop. I’ve since ventured into Spanish rock, heavy metal, new age....

My music criteria, since my youth has always been "a good tune either sung, or played well."


So that's a pretty wide genre spectrum, but naturally excludes, "free jazz, punk and rap."

Comfort zone has to be 50/60s modern jazz, singers of "standards" from any era and some 50/60s pop and Motown and similar.

Lately have been listening to a bit of "retro" R&B.

I'm all over the board. When I want to get adventurous, I'll break into the mainstream collection.

When I get time I'm going to add a few to one of these. I like to ring the changes from time to time.

Opera is firmly in the “No way”
category for me. It’s the damn vibrato. Jiggles my damn guts🤷🏼‍♂️
Certain categories don’t engage me at all. Reggae, Techno and House are generally not getting any play time unless an artist I like snuck some into a disk/file.
Otherwise, play on drummer.
