in case any of all y'all wondered as to the correct pronunciation of Technics.
Spoiler alert -- I have been pronouncing it incorrectly, it seems, for more than 40 years.

I'd swear the guy who sold me a new Technics receiver in 1975 pronounced it tech-niks. In any event, it appears I too have been saying it wrong for 40+ years. Not sure how much it matters, though.

That's the way I've been sayin' it... not likely to change now, either 😐

Of course, I also pronounce Nikon with a long "i" sound in the first syllable... and I am pretty sure that sound doesn't occur in the Japanese form.

This has got absolutely nothing to do with this, but it reminded me of a something from forty years ago.
Someone I kenew worked at an engineering factory, it was in the days when Nissan cars as they are now, were called Datsun.

He said he had a friend who'd bought a new car and had to work overtime every week-end to pay off the loan. So his friends named his car, "The Sat/Sun Datsun."

Well, it was always tek-niks for me as well but it does make more sense as tek-neeks, as in these are the techniques we used to develp our products.

Nakamichi is a difficult one as well. Who knew that the Nakamichi SR4A was pronounced
“What’swrongnowyoupieceofcrapdidyougointoprotectionmodeyetagainfornogoodreasonandnowthe protectioncircuitwon'tenergizetherelaystoconnecttheoutputsandIsweartogodI’lluseyouasaboatanchoryoupieceofcrap”.

Piece o’crap.

FWIW, I am pretty sure* that the proper pronunciation is something along the lines of Min-OH-roo-ta.
______________
* and, no, I am not being facetious.

Was I the only person in North America saying "Tech-neeks"? It never occurred to me that it was otherwise, but I may have first heard it from one of my sister's boyfriends who was a hi-fi dealer when I was a kid. Why didn't she marry that guy? He was cool. First person to play me a CD.

That's what I called it -- heh, still do.
