J-M Reynaud

Not sure exactly how, but I stumbled across JM Reynaud while in the audio rabbit hole and have been interested in these since. Looking at the Bliss Jubilee bookshelf speaker that is new to the market. From what people describe they're somewhat similar in sound to Harbeth. Can anyone verify that? The dealer who I purchased my P3ESR 40th Anniversary speakers from is also a JM Reynaud dealer and I was thinking of maybe converting my order from the the Harbeth to JMR. What do you guys think?
I've read many positive comments about the JMR line, some folks have quite fallen for them. No personal experience, however. They are probably a worthy brand and I'd love to hear a pair. Gleaned from what I have read from folks who have used an earlier bookshelf model (Bliss Silver) is that they benefit from the company's own Magic Stands.

I would think that brand recognition (and reputation) would favour Harbeth in a resale scenario. Also if size is a consideration, The P3 is about 12" high and that JMR is 16".

Well after a brief email and phone chat with my dealer I was convinced enough that we agreed to cancel my Harbeth order.

It seems a lot of people move from Harbeth to JM Reynaud because the JMR seems to take what Harbeth does best and further build on those traits in every possible way. Bettering them in tone texture timbre and transparency while extending frequency response top and bottom. This is intriguing to me and worth the gamble.

I will know shortly how long it will take to arrive, but from what I can find they are a pretty low production outfit so the wait may be upwards of 2 months. Worth it if they truly are as good as people say.

Which JM Reynaud did you order?

Supposedly easy to drive /tube friendly as well.

Bob Neil carries JM Reynaud - he who carries Audio Note - so I am sure they will be quality loudspeakers. Although anything in life may not be your cup of tea. SO long as you always have a return policy option you will be fine. I would like to try a number of Bob's lines but the funny thing is the most mainstream brand he carries is Audio Note - which is HARDLY mainstream. I'd ask for a review sample but the cost of shipping would end that discussion fast.

I was able to get in on the very first USA shipment of Bliss Jubilee slated for late July arrival. The Bliss was removed from market a couple years back but has made its debut as the Jubilee version. This is supposedly a quite updated/upgraded speaker from the last Bliss Silver so no real reviews are available just yet. I ordered my pair in the pearly anthracite grey finish but couldn't quite afford the matching Magic Stands to go with them. That will just have to be for later I suppose.

Congratulations! 😎

J M Reynaud uses series crossovers in his designs.
I remember reading a review in Stereophile around 2003-2004.
The review in the link below states this in the fourth paragraph.
IMHO the reviewer doesn't understand the electrical interactions of a series crossover design compared to a parallel.

I would enjoy hearing some of his designs.

Hello, happy to meet you guys.
I just found a pair of Evolution 3s at a goodwill. (I am an oldschool AKer, but didn’t think they would know much about them, and google didn’t even link me to AK at all.)

One top tweeter wooden enclosure is broken, and the Gold facade of the tweeter enclosure is bent. looks like a little wood glue will put her back together. Going to need a refoam as well, the rest of the cabinets are near pristine, if I can get the children’s stickers off the front. :)

any information/specs, cabinet design of these Evolution 3 speakers would be much appreciated.

what’s this little vent in the back above the label ?The other speaker has a plastic plug there...

Big suckers. :) I’m INto vintage audio for fun, tubes and stuff. But my recording studio has Adam s3as and in my little home recording desk has proac 100 clones. Hard to beat either of those, but from what everyone is saying... I hit paydirt.

okay, I just plugged the broken one in and the tweeter works flawless, compared to my proacs, with no thought given to placement I can hear a big difference, this woofer is doing a lot of the heavy lifting. awesome vocals and mids. I put on music I know very well, and I can already tell these are “musical” speakers, very different from the critical speakers I am used to. Beautiful sounds coming from these. :) I had just the left side hooked up, and the right was the proac, and it was like the proac was “knocking” out of the tweeter.. :) almost like the crossover is set very high because the woofer covers so much ground.

the other speaker needs a refoam. Any recommendations? Looks like rubber.

can see what happened, poor things were somehow dropped right on the
Teeeter... there is blunt force Trauma on the wood and metal facade. Should be an easy fix. 07BC7163-2827-4D4A-8755-303620F6ADFA.jpegimage.jpgimage.jpg

Nice find. Contact Amherst audio to see if they can send you or get in contact with someone who may be able to help you out with replacements.

How much did you pay for both?

Haha, $29.99, all in. I almost feel guilty reporting that.

Thanks for the contact at Amherst. I would love to talk with someone who knows the company. I am assuming these are about 25+ years old.

I’ll order some foam as soon as I find the best.

looks like the basics of this design, and this type of tweeter stuck around for quite some time and we’re used for later models. But I don’t see a lot of this gold trim on the tweeter, most of the pictures I see have a dark grey facade.

Wow that's a heck of a steal. I would definitely contact Amherst and see what they can do. It might be worth having the driver's professionally serviced by shipping them back to France. Those are valuable speakers and getting them working and repaired properly will be a very special treat when finished. Definitely worth the effort and money to do it right.

I was reading about the woofers being double magnet, double voice coil.

i wasnt expecting this too...Can’t say I’ve ever seen a tweeter with two magnets.

These tweeters are heavily cemented in place, I doubt anyone ever felt compelled to remove them.. si ill document these as I’m trying to get this wood glued back together.

I’m going to refoam the woofers soon too, can’t wait to see those bad boys. hopefully i can get a peek a the x-over....

I have the Bliss Silvers, but have never heard the Harbeths. The JMR’s are my favorites of all the speakers I’ve owned, along with the Audio Note E/Spe HE’s. Both are just alive, and so musical. I’m always on the lookout for some Offrandes.
