Learnings from the Philips box

The pictured 55-CD box of Philips discs has something special inside: a voluminous liner notes, with essays by insiders on the rise and fall of an iconic classical label. The massive investment in digital sound in the 80s is covered. Of particular note, though, are the musings on why the label collapsed. One interesting fact here is that Philips lost significant revenue post-digital because there was no longer a brisk business in vinyl replacements. CDs did not "wear out."

A recommended walk down memory lane, and a sonic treasure trove. Yes, this is still for sale on Amazon.
