Listening Chairs

I got an ad for this chair this morning. I could be comfy in there. View attachment 41457
Reminiscent of a ~1930s red velvet chair we once had here around 1987. Unfortunately it was purged once I began gutting the house a couple years later - along with other things I now wish I could've kept. šŸ˜¢ I really liked it ! Very comfortable.

Weā€™ve had this one for a few months. Itā€™s really big. Iā€™m guessing itā€™s early 40s, the upholstery is original but needs to be redone. I ā€œknow a guyā€ but itā€™d be $$$

That's gorgeous!
My wife was on every resale site/app around to find something like it. I like the one in your photos, too. Its really hard to find this stuff now. We rented a tiny SUV to go pick it up and man, that was a tight squeeze. Its a lot more hefty than it looks in photos.

I recall ours was very heavy for its size. Built like a tank!

This is my current listening chair as I work from home. I bought it at a pole-barn-estate-sale about 10 years ago for $20. I just really liked the solid construction, and we needed something other than a folding chair for our desk. Looks to be a 1940s - 1960s office chair.
There is actually a Bedford Historical Society & Museum that has some information on the manufacturer of the chair, but no information when this particular chair may have been made.

I hope @charles hidalgo wonā€™t mind me posting this, but I was visiting his site and saw this chair and for me, this would be the perfect listening chair W/ ottoman. I emailed Charlie (and weā€™re such good friends now that I can call him Charlie) and he told me he sits in it everyday. I like it.

This was a Craigslist find. It weighs a ton. It's scratched up from a cat on the arms and I did not care it was so comfy. The guy was 85 and they had it for ages. I gave him 50 dollars as he proposed and took it home. I have sat in it everyday almost this year since I got it and never thought what brand it was till the other day when I was asked. I found the original ā€œSelig of Monroe" tag.. I was surprised at their furniture prices I saw while searching online. Either way I love it and I have hundreds of hours in it to date.

That is a handsome chair. I poked around a bit and wasn't able to come up with any info about when it was made. Marble made very few designs with the horizontal elements in the back. The slats are almost exclusively vertical in their products. I wonder if the 4204 on the tag is some sort of date code? I just cannot image much office furniture production going on in April of 1942 as America was ramping up production for WW2.

I actually emailed the Bedford Historical Society & Museum and they responded. Unfortunately they told me that because of the pandemic their staffing has been reduced, and their archivist/curator is on extended leave and her return date is unknown. They have promised that once she's back that they will contact me with any information they discover.

The Burger King?
It had a bit of a medieval flare to it so I thought king?
I am still up in the air whether I should have a chair that looks great and somewhat comfortable or one that is ultra comfortable and doesnā€™t look great. First world problemsā€¦

My answer to that question for myself was how often will I see the chair while I am sitting in the chair? I ended up with a chaise couch.
