I love this amp. Its just so -weird- looking. Heatsinks in...front? It is PACKED inside, can't believe how heavy it is for its size. I used this for awhile several years back on my Quad ESLs because, you see, it has an 'electrostatic' setting on back so why not? It worked out great. It took a Pass Aleph 30 to unseat it and even then it was almost a tossup. That I was using it on ESLs should say at least something about the regard I held this little amp in. It's compact, about the size of an '80s CD player, but has 80wpc.

Everything works except a few lightbulbs. In the photos you'll see that one still works. There were/are others between the fins of the heatsinks if you're inclined to replace them. I was not inclined but, you know, almost meant to get around to it.

The full story of this sleeper of an amp here. A bit rare and on the higher end of Lux things at the time.

$300 OBO/trade for SMALL stuff like SUTS, plus shipping.

Oh, and while this is not my photo this is what's packed, rather tightly, inside:

That is a rather efficient use of space!

I like the heatsinks on the front, clearly it's allowed them to keep the overall package smaller.

A toss up between an Aleph 30? That is high praise IMO.

Good luck with sale~

The Aleph was a slightly better match and overall it edged it out a bit in sound, but it wasn't an unfair match and the Aleph came with drawbacks...namely in heat put off and electricity usage. Which is why I more often than not ran the Quad 63s on this amp as opposed to the Aleph 30. I had the Quads in the bedroom and didn't like falling asleep with the space-heater Aleph running all night. The Aleph also did not like my tube preamp and this was fine with it. So overall it was kind of a wash, and the small form factor of this amp fit better in the room.

Even if somebody doesn't buy this one here, if you at some point run across one and need a small amp these are wonderful. It was part of a series of slim-line but high quality components. I'm not normally a fan of vintage solid state but I couldn't fault this amp especially considering how much they sell for.

what types of cable ends do those speaker terminals take (spades, bananas etc)?

I don't know what was going on with Luxman in this era but all of their speaker terminals were torture devices. They take bare wire but pins might also work. I recall using it with adaptors and these gold plated soft pins and plugging banana plugs into them. You put both ends of the wire in then tighten the common lock-nut down. But one always falls out of course.

ugh. yeah there was a period that manufacturers used oddball terminals that may have worked ok on the thin wire of the day but not work with modern wire. and are not amenable to adaptations.

once i bought the monster brand adaptors with the "soft pins". they worked ok but did not last long before the pins would break off.

im ok with replacing oddball vintage terminals with modern terminals (function over form). but "certain techs" may refuse to do that work. :)

It’s funny. That was the main reason I got rid of my Kenwood L-07M II’s. The speaker terminals were just horrid.

Luxman and Sony in that era were in a competition with Kenwood to torture the most stereo fanatics.
