I’ll have to live vicariously through you.So this is a Gene Walls restored Otari MX-5050 BII. He tears these down to the frame and rebuilds them. Not a cheap proposition, but if you want a deck that will outlast you? Calibrated and completely sorted, you pay the piper.
If ever you are in town bud, shoot me a msg!I’ll have to live vicariously through you.![]()
My recording capabilities are not up to my own personal standards so I will be acquiring tapes as the fun fund allows. The fact that my gear purchasing has slowed down considerably as I settle down for the foreseeable future makes this somewhat possible. But I have been inquiring about tape to those that are into the medium and am always on the hunt for sources of quality tape.Very nice ! So is this to make ultra HQ needle drops or are you sitting on a stash of pre-recorded reel tapes ?
I bet his info is in my picture thread from that day. Will have to go back and look. I had forgotten all about that. I bet he charges a premium for them though. That seems to be the norm for quality tape. I knew this going in so I am not complaining….much.Very cool! Did you run into the guy at the 2019 NYC audio show who was developing a reel tape business ? By his own accounts, he somehow "owns" a warehouse full of Euro LP master tapes from a pressing plant and was selling tape dupes along with some very expensive restored machines. Wish I had written his name down but I'm sure you can find it with some google-fu.
He was partnered with the giant Chinese field-coil horn setup in the big ballroom. I sat and listened through a Joe Jackson album on reel that was pretty stellar.
