moOde Audio Player for Raspberry Pi

@MikeyFresh What is the state of Tidal support in Moode these days?

I'm not a TIDAL subscriber so I don't have first hand use experience there, but there are a number of ways you can use TIDAL with Moode depending on the Control Point in use, i.e. it can run on iOS using JPLAY as @jrocker mentioned, or BubbleUPnP on Android, or from a desktop using Linn Kazoo.

If you meant support in terms of using the native TIDAL app and TIDAL Connect, I believe that no longer works anymore and they've given up on it. For a while there was some kind of game of whack-a-mole happening with on again/off again compatibility through upmpdcli, but at some point that ended and I think Moode no longer has a setting available for TIDAL Connect if I'm not mistaken.

My only point of comparison is using the above mentioned apps with Qobuz and not TIDAL. Unlike many folks who complained a lot about not being able to use the native Qobuz (or TIDAL) app, I always found the use of Qobuz through the Control Points mentioned above as perfectly useable, and I'd guess thats also true of TIDAL.

I'd also add another easy way that can be done is through Lyrion (née Logitech) Music Server. LMS has plugins for both TIDAL and Qobuz, and that too is a perfectly useable way to stream from a cloud service to a Moode endpoint, just enable the Squeezelite renderer in Moode's settings and then use the LMS Material skin browser-based UI as the control point. If Qobuz Connect never came to be, I'd be perfectly happy with using the Qobuz plugin in LMS, or the Qobuz integration in BubbleUPnP on Android. JPLAY on iPad is awesome, but I'm not a fan of their $50/yr. subscription model, I did that for exactly one year and then canceled.

For anyone using Spotify Connect on Raspberry Pi, a recent-ish Spotify update that broke librespot has been addressed via an update. From the Moode support forum:

A package for librespot v0.8.0 is available for testing.

The goal is to verify that the previously reported issues regarding breakage in Spotify Connect are resolved.

Steps to upgrade to librespot v0.8.0

1. Install the package

Code:
sudo apt update
sudo apt-mark unhold librespot
sudo apt -y install librespot=0.8.0-1moode1

2. Reboot

Report success or issues in the dedicated Moode thread.

It works!

Hey now! UPD: Pibuz: 2.5.1-1moode1 (User build/install)

According to the install guide, this will take about 10 minutes to build on an RPi 5 with 4GB of RAM. My current instance of Moode 10.3.5 is running on a Pi 5 with just 1GB of RAM, so it will take longer:

Wow... 21 minutes to build with just 1GB of RAM. I would have thought this to be much more CPU dependent and less RAM dependent (and I would have been wrong!):

Hey MikeyFresh - have you compared Pibuz or qobuz with Jplay and Tidal…sonically speaking?

I have not. While I did have JPLAY for a year and liked it very much, I do not like the subscription pricing model (for any software) and so I dropped it and just retreated back to the tried and true LMS as server with Squeezelite endpoints, and that sounds terrific both with my local library and Qobuz. The control point for that is any web browser.

Endpoints include the Sonore microRendu, WiiM Pro Plus and Ultra, or various RPi 3/4/5 configs including Moode, Volumio, piCorePlayer, and Verox (née RoPieee). I have always shunned TIDAL due to their previous involvement with MQA, however thats now long over with and so I'd consider TIDAL as a potential Qobuz replacement someday if need be.
