Mr Ed's room and system

On the digi side of life I have an old Rotel CD player that has TDA 1541A chip.

I have a DAC made with a board from an Ebay seller. It is an ES 9018 chip. Designed by a guy named Wielang ( I think I got the name right) . It's about 6 years old.
Has Cinemag transformers on the output.
I use it for steaming.

I chronicled a SLOB build here a while back.
I use a Mini DSP to xo and shape it with a Crown CTS 600 amp bridge to mono to power it.

The slot loaded open baffle uses two Altec 421 8LF drivers. Fills the last bit of bass nicely.

The room has DIY floor to ceiling bass traps 4 inch rock wool in all 4 corners plus the panel over the center front wall.
Diffusers at 1st reflection on side walls and today I made some quickie stands for two more to place on front wall.

Back wall has two rock wool panels behind the sofa

Final shot, I will call it completed till I get some more gear ready.

Where did you get the gray diffuser panels? They look great.
pare you painting your sub box to match the Altecs? Maybe a lighter gray to match the diffusers?

I bought them six years ago from some guys on DIY audio that were into open baffle stuff.
Oddly enough I saw some pop up in EBay in Europe.
They are styrofoam and I painted them with Kilz grey primer.
If I had another day off I would have tackled painting the sub.
I will pretty soon after my garage is clear from all my remodel stuff.

this is the battleship grey paint i used for my cabinets:
looks like your cabinets have a bit more blue in them
That's a great idea, I have done two home shops with that and never thought about speaker cabs. It Wil flow out smooth and be a tuff finish.
I do have enough of a couple different grays to cover this. I think I am going with darker shade to give some contrast .

I came here from the 2021 thread. Damn that is beautiful - the cost of just that stack of Elna Cerefine caps (well, they weren't as expensive 20 years ago) is simply mind-boggling.

A little back story here to start.

I moved from the Austin area to Willis ( Houston area) and we were trying to decide what room to use for my main system. We had three spare bedrooms and were considering removing a wall combining two of them to create a larger space for this.

I kept using a room mode calculator and putting in room dimensions and working with all the options.

At one point I put the dining area dimensions in and it came clear that even though smaller than I hope for by combining two bedrooms it was better suited.

Next I had to sell the wife on it, but really she's pretty on board with audio stuff like this any how.

The issue was a large, very nice and very expensive dinning table set that was waiting to be moved into this space, so the lobbying began... based on the logic that is would get use 3 or 4 holidays a year at best.
Once that was worked through she was on board, a little sad to let go of of nice piece of furniture.

So the adventure began.

Oh I would not by those caps at todays prices... heck I might be able to retire off them soon.
I've got a Dynaco Stereo 35 clone I built eons ago that uses a pair of the dual 100uf / 500V cans in the power supply as well as a couple of unused dual 220uf / 350V cans that I've been saving for the right project.

Had I known at the time (and had the available fundage), I probably would have cleaned out Angela Instruments of their Elna stock when these were discontinued.

let me get this straight--your wife let you have the dining room for your listening room and agreed to sell the dining room table/chairs? can we give her some kind of award? :Bow :Bow :Bow :Bow :Bow :Bow :Bow :Bow :Bow

Do you switch between analog out and digital out to the DAC with your Rotel? Or is it purely a transport at this point?

Your wife is very accommodating! I know better than to even suggest such a thing.
