Some toe-in does seem to help the image lock in.....

The horns having a bit of directivity makes the difference I guess. Considering whether to place them wider apart with the bass bins in the inner sides.

I would certainly try that and see how it works.

Another suggestion is to (temporarily) move the subs completely out of the way, play with the horns until you get everything (imaging, response, etc.) locked in and then see where you can place the subs. Recheck with everything in place and refine if needed.

thanks but i've tried them without the sub already. not ideal. works for non-classical music fine though.

Not to leave the subs out permanently, just so it's easier for you to play with the horns position until you get the image locked in.

They're lightweight so silicone seals work well. I used paint over silicone.

i know this sounds silly but i've only recently been 'listening' to the setting changes i make to the crossover, and learned how critical it is to the overall SQ.

i'm beginning to see why some folks end up going DIY with speakers.

WOW. So kicking the horns into the corners made so much improvement. The sound stage became at least twice bigger, and the imaging became so much more precise and detailed. All done over 10 mins of labour! I'm a happy cat.

David, those horns look almost built-in now. Very nice, plus the better sound.

So the soundstage has become so WIDE. We were watching Martian last night and the only drawback was the smaller screen. Otherwise it was as if we were in the cinema without all that surround sound thing!

Thanks mate yes it is. Thought this might be good for the bass horns the drivers of which have relatively low sensitivity (98dB).

So, the Cayin was intended for your office use and now you are trying it at home for the bass drivers instead of the SS amps (class D?) you had there? Sorry if I don´t remember clearly your present configuration!

no need to feel sorry thanks for the interest. i bought the Caying cuz I wanted some KT88 blings to my horn rig. tried it first on my office rig but i liked Sugden better surprisingly. the bass horns (about 200-1500Hz) were being driven by the 2wpc 6fd7 amp. Class D drives the bass bins.
