My end game speakers! ? Could be

Hi all, I’m fairly new to this forum but here to share my newest and maybe final pair of speakers in my 6yr journey of re building my system.

My story is very long but I’ll keep this as short as I can. I started about 6yrs ago with wanted to rebuild a system I had prior to a divorce in 05 , I started with some Vandersteen 2ce signature ii’s and loved the Vandersteen sound signature, you have to take great care in setup and they love a lot of current but I had that taken care of.

I then moved on to a pair of Vandersteen 3a Signature’s and they were quite a step up from the 2ce signature’s. I then came across a pair of speakers I had let slip through my hands years ago and had a chance to get them so I did, the Dali Helions. They are a beautiful looking speakers and had the wood I wanted on a pair of speakers with excellent midrange and highs, but lacking a bit in the low end. Now I had the low end taken care of due to me having a JTR S1 sub that a fiend of mine tuned to my room with my speakers, but I don’t listen with the sun all the time so was a bit of a problem.

Then out of the blue a pair of speakers I had seen awhile back that were out of my price range but being sold used were obtainable now. They are the Talon Khorus X , they have real solid wood (African Mahogany) no veneer, but lined with some material they use in the aerospace industry and to eliminate any resonance. The frequency range is very impressive (to me ) at 17hz to 36khz . Power requirements are 1-1000wpc , dimensions are 46in H 18 W at the base 8in W top 21in deep , 190lbs each.

They’re an usual speaker with their obelisk shape and speaker array, what looks like a theater , midrange and woofer is actually a super tweeter , tweeter , midrang/mid bass and behind that 10in custom driver is another 10in woofer in an isobaric configuration. The drivers are an Audax Titanium super tweeter, Scanspeak custom tweeter and custom mid/bass drivers from Eminence.

My Khorus’s have been upgraded to the highest Talon offered with the crossover built to the hilt with high end parts , all cabling inside is with Kimber cables.

The sound is something that needs to be experienced as they are up there with the best speakers I have heard in their clarity, bass (which is unbelievable) and while not the last word in tweeter extension they are very very close. Widest soundstage I have had in my room , deepest and controlled bass from a set of speakers I have owned (they destroyed the Revel Salons I owned before my divorce).

With that said I am absolutely satisfied with the Khorus’s, the people who owned them have had mixed results with them and it’s almost certain they were judging the Khorus’s before they were broken in which at the time were an astounding 500hrs with some saying they didn’t have a change until 1000hrs. But once run in I tell you these things are on another level and I may just be done (yeah I know we’re never done) . I may change your gear but I don’t see myself letting these go anytime soon.

Interesting woofer set up, is there a port in the enclosure?
Talon calls it a flow valve, it’s much smaller than a normal port and has about a 10in aluminum piece that runs through it. I’ll take a picture and post it because it’s kind of hard to explain. Is it just another name for a port? Could be , all I know is it seems to work.

Those are really nice looking speakers, is there more to the name/model than Dali Helion? I tried to Google more about them and the ones I saw didn't look like those.

These are not Dali Helicons they are the Talon Khorus X. I used to own the Dali Helicons though.

is that a musical fidelity nu-vista integrated amp? i have the nu-vista cd player and have been tempted by the integrated.
It sure is , it’s the NuVista M3 and has the full factory upgrades . Exceptional Integrated , it would take a serious ultra high end Integrated for me to best this one in both Sonics and build quality. highly recommended!

What’s the brand and model of the little spot lamps? I may need a set for the speakers here.

just curios if that speaker sound good too with low volume
Yes they sound as dynamic, detailed with nice tight
Bass behind them exceptional highs midrange is the best I’ve heard of course at higher volumes the dynamics are bigger and the bass has more impact. Also as with any high end speakers you need the pre amp/amp to bring out the best of them and the Khorus’s do love current even though they are pretty efficient.

I’m going to order a set, mainly because I see how well they work. Def takes the guesswork out.
I like them because they run off batteries and no cables in the way. Not sure how long they batteries last but I’ve had them since Father’s Day and use them every few days I’d say and they’re still going.

I stumbled across a pair of those at a flea market of all places, along with a stack of Bryston gear and high end cables. They were literally surrounded by piles of junk. I'm guessing it was a storage unit score. This was right before the lockdown and once the COVID dust cleared I went back to see if they were still there and not only was the dealer gone, the entire BUILDING was gone. Torn down and reduced to a pile of rubble....
