My Escape Room

Some of my background..In the late 70’s I owned and managed a small high end audio store in Owensboro, KY, and was part owner of a commercial sound reinforcement company. Marriage and children interrrupted the obsession for several years. Then about 10 years ago the obsession returned and I’ve been building a system. I currently own a pair of Goldenear Triton References, a Carver Crimson 275, Prima Luna Dialogue Preamp, Thorens TD 165 TT (no vinyl), Schiit Yggdrasil, Roon Nucleus, Oppo 103 and Mac Mini. Converted a 2 car garage. Dimensions 20 x 24. Lots of sound treatment. System is dialed in and blows me away.4E79BD43-A368-4C76-8B23-D10F76DC10B8.jpeg

Welcome to the Haven and quite the spot you have there, lots of room to stretch and digging the posters. You will have to fix that turntable with no vinyl bit though. ;)

That is a seriously cool system. How are you enjoying the Carver? Any thoughts you’d like share?

Oh, and welcome to the Haven.

The Carver replaced a pair of Outlaw class D amps.....That and the Prima Luna preamp made me wonder if there were problems with the equipment it replaced....They sound great together and the Carver easily drives the GE’s to 100+dB no problems. I’ve alway been a Bob Carver fan, but this is my first purchase from Bob. The Yggdrasil was a very nice add as well. What really surprised was how much improvement I gained with the Roon Nucleus from the running Roon on the Mac Mini. I guess the the USB ports on the Mac Mini are fine for data but do no do well on audio. Again a noticeable difference...All in all I am well pleased with the system...

A couple of points:

- What improvement did you hear when switching to the Carver? Did you try the Prima Luna with the Outlaws too?
- The Yggdrasil is a fantastic piece, isn’t it? If the horrible Canadian dollar exchange rate hadn’t made it so expensive, I’d likely have one by now. A buddy has one, and I’ve enjoyed it a number of times in his very revealing system.
-What’s a Roon Nucleus?

Great to see this and your return to audio after life got in they way, so to speak.
Nice room and system.
Welcome to the haven.

Carver sounded more musical, better defined, less fatiguing...I was using a an Outlaw preamp as well. The Prima Luna has had the biggest impact of any of the electronics/tubes. Roon Nucleus is made my Roon Labs, the same people that sell the audio file software. I was running Roon on my Mac mini but was not pleased with the sound. Roon builds their own server (Nucleus) with top notch components.
