My name is John and I have long posted under the moniker "electrovice". My main haunt over the years has been the Audio Asylum. In the last few years the asylum has strayed from what drew me there in the first place. The willingness to explore new ideas, to actually build things,to help others new to the hobby and to have fun is just not what it used to be on AA. This forum was suggested to me by Paul from Bottlehead as a place that might work for me. I have lurked here for a bit and I think that Paul might be right.
Equipment-wise, I am a bit of a scrounge and cheapskate. I started collecting from thrifts and garage sales when one could readily find lots of interesting things for very little money. I don't really have a stable system but rather one that can frequently change. The most stable element of my main system is a pair of Altec 604Es in homebuilt Stonehenge enclosures. Amplification can vary between tube and vintage solid state. My sources are various cd players, vinyl (Thorens TD 125) and recently a linux based music server. I have a rather large collection of vinyl and cds.
I am hoping that on this forum I will see others making sawdust, drilling holes, soldering wires, making mistakes, fixing mistakes, having successes, listening to music and having fun with this hobby. I am hoping that watching others do this will inspire me to do the same.
I do have a question about posting pictures. On the AA, photos need to be hosted elsewhere. Other forums allow compressed images to be hosted by the forum itself. How does that work here?
