New NAD $299 CD Player

Hey, it does look like a kind of nice package :)
Thanks for callin' it to "our" attention!

EDIT: Oh, and unlike some other modern entry level CD players I've seen recently, this NAD provides a digital signal output, so it's upgradeable. That's a good thing.

So, maybe I am just being hyper-sensitive, but this prose (from the NAD site link above) struck me as a bit odd...

The C 538 also can play CD-R/CD-RW discs allowing you to burn songs from your computer for playback on your CD Playing system. Because these songs are encoded in MP3 or WMA format, you can fit up to 10 hours of music on a single disc which is great for party mixes and ambient listening.

Am I to infer from the above that this player won't play a "redbook" CD burned to a CD-R (or CD-RW)?
That would be odd - and not a great thing, from my antediluvian perspective :p

I have never cared for the plain jane NAD aesthetic. But I am truly glad to see a manufacturer keeping the torch burning.

No if the player has the CD-R/RW logo, it will play that disc format with straight Redbook data on it. The only way it wouldn't is if NAD intentionally blocked it via firmware, which would be ridiculous.

That copy is poorly written, but means to play up the capability of making long-play "mixes" and the like using lossy compression such as MP3. It sort of presumes that all "songs from your computer" are encoded in a lossy format, which of course is not the case at all.
