New - To EVERYTHING

The little MPD library I created here at lunch scanned in quickly, just a few artist folders on a thumb drive, and it plays fine through a USB connected DAC, here is the view of a playlist in landscape:

Alright well I tried all of that again. I did notice the spinner on the music tab this time and it was only there for about 7-8 seconds, which explains why I missed it last night. Still no sound. Most of the settings you’ve suggested were already done, presumably by Allo. As far as the volume controller, under configure -> audio-> devices, it says “hardware volume control not detected” if that means anything.

I just unplugged the coax from the Sig and plugged it into the back of my directv box, and got immediate sound, so the cable is for sure good and the audio controls on the AVR are for sure set up correctly for that input.

Paging @je2a3 I believe you use a DigiOne with Moode if I'm remembering it right?

If so, can you confirm that the Moode settings are indeed available through the browser (no SSH configuration is necessary) and also advise if there is a specific I²S driver in the Configure drop down menu suitable for the DigiOne?

Very sorry for my late response. I’m out of town doing back to back rehearsals with Harrisburg Symphony for concerts this weekend.

IIRC, after physically installing the digione HAT, attached cables to the DAC and booting, I chose “Allo DigiOne” from the moOde browser menu and saved the setting. It worked with no problems.

What about the main thing I listed in my reply to you:

Configure -> Audio -> MPD -> Options -> Edit Settings -> Audio Device -> I²S -> APPLY

The above is a different menu than the one where you selected the DigiOne Signature as the I²S device, in this above setting you are telling MPD to output audio over I²S, but your replies don't mention whether or not you've tried that.

I missed this last night because I don't have an I²S device connected, only USB, and it only shows as an available option what is actually connected. So in my case it shows USB and On-board audio device as the two choices.

In your case it should show I²S and On-board audio device as the two options. Choose I²S and don't forget the APPLY part.

That one is fine, that setting only applies to devices that support hardware volume control, yours does not.

There is another spot where you can turn on/off the software volume control. It's OK to be on so long as the volume itself isn't at zero, I like to pin that out at 100% and then disable it.

So first things first, right there in the Playback pane beneath the track time elapsed there is a volume controller (if you are looking at it on a phone you probably need to turn the phone Landscape to see it, make sure software volume is at 100%, and then disable with the following:

Configure -> Audio -> MPD options -> Edit Settings -> Volume Control -> Disabled (0dB) -> APPLY

I'll reiterate something I said last night, it is definitely easier to fully see what is going on in the UI on an actual computer's web browser. Mobile browsers not only look different, but depending on the screen size the available real estate can force the UI to render differently. Don't swim upstream on that, once you have everything set of course you can use the phone to control it, in the meantime have a full look at the UI by accessing it from an actual computer screen.

Something like the APPLY button is a prime example of that, many people flat out insist they don't have an APPLY button at all, until they look at it on a computer and then somehow it jumps out at them. Once they return to their phone they realize it was there the whole time, but their eyes played tricks on them.

Yes this part had already been set - by Allo I guess. No change was needed.

Back at the office now, so I'll double check this part tonight. I have been doing all of this from my wife's MB though, so no concern there.

OK, once you have the software volume maxed and then disabled, I recommend one last reboot and restart in the following manner:

First, make absolutely sure you know which power supply is for the RPi3, and which one is for the DigiOne Signature, they cannot be confused for each other.

Choose the shutdown option in the M drop down menu, let the RPi3 shut down, and then pull it's power plug.

Also then pull the power plug to the D1S.

With everything off/unpowered, reconnect the power to the D1S only and let it boot for a second or two, depending on what case you have it in you should be able to see an LED light up once the boot occurs, should only take a second or two.

Then reconnect the power to the RPi3 and allow it's boot sequence, that takes a bit more time, probably 20 seconds, perhaps more depending on how fast your router provisions an IP address.

Sniff the IP using Fing (it may or may not be the same as it was before, that's also a router thing) and then try to play music.

Ok, I’ve only checked the i2s part that you said to check, and wanted to attach a screen shot before I move on (Did this part from my phone, since it was a simple verify). Hopefully the attachment works.

Sorry, wrong screen shot. It’s on “disabled” and theres a note below saying this setting automatically sets it to 100% volume. When I hit “apply” a box popped up that said “MPD restarted.”

Should be all good, the software volume control is indeed disabled and 0dB means no attenuation is taking place (volume is at 100%).

Your previous screen shot verifies MPD is set to output over I²S.

Thats it then, you should be able to play music, though I do recommend the specific reboot sequence described above where first you boot the D1S (noting LED activation on it), then the RPi3.

if you then select a track from the library, a pop-up asks if you want to add it to a playlist, or play it etc...?

Still no sound. It asks to play, i hit play, but it said “added to playlist.” Then I select the “playback” tab to check if it appears to be playing. The song is indeed elapsing. I hit pause, and it froze and freaked out again. The attached picture is the screen it is frozen on. Normally when you hit pause (as you know) in other players, video etc. the play button shows up to enable playback again. This just freezes showing only the pause button. It will not resume playback. It’ll go back to the album title list, but wont go back any further than that. None of the other buttons are functional, I’ll have to restart.

OK, after you reboot lets try a couple of other things, they may indicate what's wrong, or at least point in the direction of what to say to either Allo's support channel, or Moode's, or both.

After a reboot in which once again you first power-up/boot the D1S, and then the RPi3, see if you can play a radio station instead of a track from the thumb drive. I'll warn you upfront some of the radio stations don't work, for instance the BBC geo fences their feed and so it isn't available in the U.S. so don't pick a BBC station. Other stations just don't actually broadcast 24/7, so sometimes you come to one that is currently off the air, but there is no actual indication of such.

So, lets go with Audiophile Jazz, I just dialed it up and they are broadcasting presently:

Can you play this radio station?

Btw, prior to this when it froze, I couldnt get back to the menu to shut it down like you described above, I hit refresh and it stayed on the attached. I just had to unplug the boards.

OK, for kicks, since @je2a3 has his non-signature unit running fine, why don't we try the I²S driver for that one instead of the Signature version you currently have installed. It's worth a try.

Configure -> Audio -> Devices -> I²S Audio Device -> Allo DigiOne -> SET

That is very odd and looks indicative of a corrupted Moode install, but let's try the above driver switch first, and then if that fails we'll see if you can actually update the Moode software using what they call an in-place update.
