I've got a used Traeger I need to pick up from a friend this weekend. It'll be a first for me (never owned a pellet smoker / BBQ).

These things are amazing - my nephew cooked me a good cut of Alberta beef last time I was out there on one of these and it was easily the best steak I've ever had. I used to heat a home I had years ago with a pellet stove which used very similar technology, but this seems a better use of the concept.

I need one.

I wouldn't use run of the mill heating pellets in these. There's often no telling the source, and may have things you don't want to ingest in them. Stick to the material made for this application. Applewood pellets have been my favorite for a number of years. I've been fortunate enough to have a number of friends with these contraptions, and have learned first hand that they work very, very well.

Congrats and welcome to the pellet cooking world. Been doing it for a few years with a few different grills. That's a nice Traeger
