Ok, so new guy from Idaho.

Hi all, I live in Hailey, Idaho, up by Sun Valley ski resort. Had read a few threads here googling for info, and then @Drugolf , whom I know from audio in Idaho, suggested I join, as I am getting deeper into my systems, and deeper into digital especially. And now venturing into tubes a bit, beyond what I have done a long time with guitar amps. Different animal.

I have a number of systems in my house. One main, some of which I bought from @Drugolf and some others, and could be called vintage, and some of which is newer. Such as my main DAC. Right now, I am using a new BlueSound Node there, going by SPDIF into a Mytek Brooklyn DAC+. Elsewhere in the house are various other smaller systems usually consisting of a good older receiver, almost all Harman/Kardon, and BlueSound Node 2s or 2i’s. Mostly Dahlquist speakers.

At work is my other main system. I am thinking the Mytek will migrate there, and I will add, after learning here, a Raspberry Pi based streamer to it, and then it will feed my office system. Then the main home system will use another outboard DAC from the Node. Planning on doing some comparison shopping for something that sounds as good as the Mytek, but I don’t need all the other features The DAC+ has. Frontrunners there are the Topping D90ES, Mytek Liberty, or Denafrips Aries II. Hoping at some point to audition all three and send back the ones I don’t want. Oh, and I use Roon, and stream mostly via Tidal, and Qobuz, and also have access to a family Spotify premium account because the family has that and uses it. I plan on making a new laptop my Roon core at some point so it can go to work with me. Probably with a portable drive like I have seen Darko talk about.

Anyways, that is basically my story. I may start popping into some threads, and after reading around, ask a few questions.

Thanks!

Welcome to The Haven Sunvalley! Great looking gear that I would love to hear. How much is the Hafler pre modded? Ive been to the Musical Concepts page and seen all the possible mods 🤪for Hafler gear and also have my eyes on a DH200.

That one I purchased from @Drugolf and it is some old mods the MC guy did a long time ago. So not completely sure. It has a large outboard power supply. Not sure what mods were done inside. I can say it sounds great and took my system to a new level replacing a cromulent mid 00’s PS Audio 6.1 preamp that used to sit there. So no plans to do anything to it further for now. My Hafler P225 (pro version DH-220) is stock. Though I do have designs on having it modded by MC.

You might notice I also have a pretty new to me XL-280 at work, working with that Schiit Freya+ for my work system. That sounds really good too! I think that Hafler is pretty stock also, but not sure. I plan on someday giving it a tune up as well.
