On high-sensitivity (super)tweeters, or, "I musta got lost"

Glad to see this thread resurrected, Mark. I understand the reluctance of us Altectistas to adding super tweets to extend the top end response of (especially) older Altec gear. But, my 65 year old ears are not what they used to be, and I still crave that sizzle and "air" that a nicely-integrated super tweeter can bring to the mix.

Being that I'm too lazy to unpack and use the Behringer RTA that I have on hand, I guesstimated (by checking other's actual measurements) that my pre-tangerine 802Ds were beginning their rolloff at 10kHz. So I bought a couple of Beyma CP21-F slotted super tweets and brought them in at 10kHz using a simple capacitor. They are used with an L-pad. The difference in top end response is wonderful. At this point, I wouldn't delete them from my system at all.

I'm not a dyed-in-the-wool audiophile, by any stretch. I'm far too easily pleased to abide in that community. I do the best I can to use specifications and measurements to the best of my understanding, but in the end the sonic results are what rule the day. With that said, the addition of the Beymas to my 416/511B/802D combo sounds like a winner to me.

Hoping I don’t need supers atop my altecs when done.....but in case I do would the slotted prism JBL’s work (for anyone who’s tried them)?
It was likely covered already but imagine most like fostex and/or jbl bullets ala Hiraga? There’s the paper and oil article too.

I'm planning on a good 2-way, no super tweeter. ;)

Prevailing wisdom (at least among the gurus in northern New England) is that supertweeters don't work well with the Altec horns/drivers. There's certainly some truth to that -- but, Philistine that I am, I do it any way. :)
