After the caps went bad in my old speakers from 70, which resulted in dead now unobtainable tweeters. I got a wake up call and are now eager to be pro active with my stuff, which I before just thought of as "I'll get that fixed the day it breaks". I found a technician of the old school that makes total services - check soldering joints, testing, fixing lamps and oxidization, check values are close to specs all over, and besides fixing everything that "must" be fixed, at least replaces the filtering and coupling caps in my amplifiers etc. He details every little part or fix he does, so if I hand it over everything it is very well documented. I only own middle range or even low range Pioneer stuff, no SX-1080's here as far the eye can see, so I know I won't ever get back that service money. But, I frankly don't care though, that is not what I'm in this for. I love the looks and feeling of vintage gear,, listening to music in such a dedicated way. After a while I'll rotate my setup and put some aside for a while. So for me it is worth it, I pay to know the my stuff might be just bit more reliable, singing close to like it did when it was new, and will live with me for a longer time.
