well... Old Guy that I am -- and with some trepidation* -- I offer the following suggestion, chockablock with disclaimers, implied and expressed! Kids, don't try this at home! ;)

but...@rogerfederer if you are so inclined, you might want to pick up a can of "circuit chiller" (can one still get this stuff? There must be ozone-friendly variants in 2021CE?) and go at that bad boy's innards after it warms up and fails. This is a time-honored way to ID a part that "breaks down" when it warms up. EDIT: Does this one have tubes in it? If so -- umm -- don't spray the tubes, 'K? ;)

Again, no guarantee and I accept no liability if something bad happens!

Funnily enough, I have a Sangean HD tuner here that, similarly, dies off after about a minute of working perfectly -- and I keep meaning to get me a can of "Freeze-Mist" or whatever the 2021 CE equivalent might be! :)

Looks like this is the 21st Century equivalent...

emailing w MD. they will fix it and do regular service for $150 plus $45 per broken meter plus $30 to ship it back. this is getting more expensive but what heck. the upgrade program would another $300 so not going there.

missed this writing my last post. many thanks for the good suggestion. once i retire i'm gonna get into the learning how to repair gear business (like learning how to use that scope i bought yrs ago). just too much going on right now. i could put it in the garage (like a bunch of other audio projects) and get to it later but so tempting to send it off to MD and be done w it.

I just opened the Dayton subwoofer amp
Well packed and all looks good.
And..
It.works and is very quite, no more fan noise from Crown amp or the hum from my class D amp.
