Qobuz Studio and Sublime

I'll really like it if it doesn't start skipping, delaying, glitching like Apple Music did on the iPhone. I called Apple Music and was told it was because of my wireless service. Verizon wireless service said it was Apple Music. I cancelled the Apple Music subscription after about 2 years and am back to using my iPod classic. I would be happy to hear that Qobuz doesn't have these same problems.

I was a beta tester. It was good but for my purposes, no better than Tidal. If I had a high quality dac I might have noticed more difference. More expensive and I would have to switch all my favorites over. I cancelled it. I still just prefer my analog playback to any digital I have heard.

i had a 3 month tester free subscription. pretty good library. a bit less urban than tidal, more classical, european, and classic rock.

did have a few weird tics. sometimes a track would freeze and then it would never work again. rest of album would work but not that track.

i think the monthly for lossless is higher than tidal so will stay where i am.

The weird tics you describe are the same as what happened with Apple Music on my iPhone.

Over the years, I've spent a lot of money on iTunes, so I'll stay with the iPod or use iTunes on the smartphone. I use earbuds while I'm on the Metro to/from my hobby job, FM radio at the hobby job and mostly vinyl at home. Maybe by the time I truly retire there will be a mobile platform that has true hi resolution playback. It isn't high resolution if tracks freeze, skip, don't work after downloading. whatever.

I signed up as soon as I got the email. I've been a Tidal user for years and really enjoy their service. I'm interested to try Qobuz, at least for a couple months. I will be very surprised if they can offer a service that pulls me away from Tidal though.

Signed up for the Qobuz service that allows me to stream unlimited hi-rez (FLAC) music.

Currently, not everything is FLAC so then the quality level drops to a "CD quality" level like Tidal and Deezer.

Listening to some FLAC selections this morning was quite nice. There is a positive difference.

At $25/month, not cheap but appears to be worth the expense.

Just my opinion. :)

I'll be looking for a Qobuz trial whenever it manages to launch here in the GWN. I think there's always some variability with the sources - I run into lossy AAC tracks once in a while on Tidal.

I'm seeing tracks clearly labeled as FLAC on Qobuz. Kind of nice.

The FLAC tracks do seem to sound better then the non-FLAC versions.

So some are offered in 16-bit, and some are "hi-rez" 24-bit?

Without getting confirmation from Qobuz, that is what it looks like to me.

They have three monthly payment levels: 1. 320kbps MP3, 2. 16 bit CD quality (ala Tidal and Deezer) and 3. 24/192 FLAC HiRez (not available on all selections).

I went for the HiRez option. Not sure if the FLAC selections are visible on options 1 or 2.

For instance, searching for Tracy Chapman 'Fast Car' the selection is clearly marked as FLAC - and it sounds like it. Better, in comparison, to the same track on Tidal and Deezer.

Other selections (been listening to a bunch of Yes and Dire Straits this afternoon) do not have the FLAC designation and sound pretty much the same as the same selections on Tidal and Deezer.

I'll keep exploring, especially Classical and Jazz, to listen to and compare FLAC designated selections to the CD quality selections on Tidal and Deezer.

My internet connection is currently running >100mbps download speeds, which should handle streaming FLAC content without any issues.

More to follow. :)

Did separate album searches on Sonos for 'FLAC' and '24bit'. Checked out the results returned from Quboz and ended up with a bunch of Hi-Rez albums of various sampling frequencies.

Currently listening to Cream 'Wheels of Fire' and it sounds pretty damn good!

Maybe there is something to this Hi-Rez streaming stuff.... ;)

Now that you've had it a little longer, how do you find Qobuz compares to Tidal overall @TubeHiFiNut? Do you prefer one over the other at this point?
How's the catalog?

Catalog is not as extensive as Tidal or Deezer.

The selections available in Hi-Rez sound very good. Relaxed, detailed and sweet.

Huuuuuuuuuge differences? No.

Worth the cost? In my opinion, yes. Whatever improvements I can gain in the streaming source make the delivery technology that much more usable.

I like Qobuz and will keep it. :)

So I got an email about a limited time Qobuz promotion. They are offering the Studio premier (Hi-res FLAC / CD) for $15 per month. I don't think the promotional price expires, but the window to sign up is through the end of January. I don't have any sort of association with them, other than being a subscriber. Honestly, I just signed up for the free trial because of audio quality, as I'm pretty heavily invested in the Google Play Music-O-Sphere. I was going to let the Qobuz free trial expire and then go back to GPM, but the promo price is going to make me stay. I think I'll be transferring my favorites and playlists over to Qobuz, and unsubscribing from GPM.

I saw that too and signed up. It was confusing, and the website was opaque, but I think that essentially, they dropped the price of their top tier subscription.

That they did, as well as remove the bottom price tier, I believe it was $9.99/mo. lossy MP3 only. Thats gone, though I guess a lossy streaming price tier could someday return under popular demand and/or lower pricing. But it would likely no longer compete as well at the $9.99 it had been.

This new Studio Premiere product is even a little less expensive at $12.50/mo. if one commits to a full year subscription upfront ($150) as opposed to the $15 month-to-month.

Now if I could only actually subscribe. I had been an original beta tester of Qobuz in the U.S. on a pre-launch basis, for whatever reason the beta testers were originally registered through the Qobuz U.K. site and my account settings/details still reflect that. This new offer is so far only available to U.S. residents, and Qobuz's system still sees me in the U.K. even though I am (and always have been) in the U.S.

While there is a way to change your address in the My Account Settings, the country is locked. So I'll need Qobuz to make that change before I can actually subscribe to this new plan in the U.S.

First, I love Quobuz and I don’t mind paying the new premium. However, I didn’t much care for the way they handled it, just telling me I was now in the premium category with detailing any options:

“ Studio Premier gives you unlimited access to our certified Hi-Res and CD lossless quality catalog and in-depth exclusive editorial content for only $14.99/month. The good news is that you don't have to do anything to take advantage of this offer. You will be automatically transferred to this new plan at $14.99/month when your monthly subscription is renewed on 11/18/2019.”

Mikey, where can I find about “This new Studio Premiere product is even a little less expensive at $12.50/mo. if one commits to a full year subscription upfront ($150) as opposed to the $15 month-to-month.” I’ll do this but I can’t find where to do so. Can you send a link?

I see, so in other words you had been a Studio subscriber at $9.99/mo. for MP3 and they simply notified you that was now a $14.99/mo. deal with the tracks now at greater resolution?

I'm not sure where any existing subscriber would find the yearly plan option, I think you'd just need to go into the My Account Settings tab and change it there?

I had the same issue with it thinking I was in the UK, although I had never been a beta tester. I deleted that account and will try again later.
