RCA Mono Horn System

That's funny ... thanks the good laugh this morning Mr Hardy. 🙂
That's what I'm here for -- comic relief.
I've been known to mention this at the beginning of a presentation at scientific symposia, too. :o

On topic (!?!) -- OK, so now I am obsessing about series crossovers.

I just did the math on @Topper's XO and... I got 56.84 uF (close enough for Government work ) -- if I assume R = 8 ohm (or, I guess, Z = 8 ohm). Are those 8 ohm drivers? That seems... odd to me (i.e., I would've assumed they were 16 ohm).

Well, you know me well enough to know I don't obsess over a few decimal places.

The mid drivers are 4 ohms each and I'm running them in series. The woof is nominally 30 but the similar 1432A was designated 40 and 60 previously before they settled there. (And as a caution here remember in comparing constructions that RCA based factory issue crossovers on 250 ohm input.)

Wow, that's (no impedance-related mathematical pun intended) complex.

Nor do I (obsess over a decimal point, here or there... I could be a Congressional* budget specialist!).

So, forget some of that... I just skipped forward a bit and put an autoformer on the woof to lower it to 7.5 ohms and rejigged the crossover to a 2.7 Goertz foil on the woofer and 44.9 microfarads of ganged WE caps on the mids. As a test I've got a McIntosh mono amp on it fed wih my regular left channel and... and... it makes music! On to setting up a better matched amp now and pairing a proper mono table.

Just saw this remarkable artifact posted @ the Polk forums.
One of these would look quite nice in the vicinity of this mono loudspeaker system when it's all finished and ensconced in its -- ahem -- final resting place (so to speak). :)

Sign me up and consider me in the market though this does scream STEREO. Anyone have a lead? Was that Polk mention a "for sale"?
