Record Cleaning Machines

Has anyone tried using an old turntable instead to clean the vinyl?

Are you talking about being rotating while being powered?
I've heard of people doing that with decks that can run at 16rpm; such as Lenco. But, quicker rotations tend to sling solution off the disc.
i have a two platter cleaner; the wet cleaning side is manual. The vacuum side is powered at 6rpm; two revolutions leaves me dry (reasonably so).

I use a KAB EV-1 record cleaner. You can use any vac, dry or wet, but avoid ones that have too much suction. It does a great job of cleaning. Really noisy records may require two cleanings and filthy ones, three.

Yes that is what I was thinking. Now I am hand holding to clean them.....not too effective from what my ears can tell.

A junky platter is all that you'd need, or, even a kitchen-type Lazy Susan.
You can find the center point of a circle fairly easily. So, with a Lazy Susan-type rotational platform, you could drill in a center spindle (easy to make).
I mentioned Lenco TT's as having 16rpm capability; good luck finding an affordable Lenco anymore. I'd look to the 50-8, or 50-16 models, as they're not the ones that collectors and enthusiasts are after.
My first one was a BIC, or, other form of mass produced changer TT, that I extracted the bearing and platter from. i mounted them to a piece of plywood. I could clean the records, and tuck it away in the closet. Then I found out about the VPI vac. wand, and, things drastically changed.
Its worth whatever effort that you can put into it; and the rewards match the effort.
If DIY isn't your thing, there are lots of inexpensive options; and many more spendy ways to arrive at this same end.

Beautiful machines you guys have!!! I have been looking for a decent one that would fit my budget but they are expensive! I got a spinclean manual cheap one and seem to do the work.

A bit of a pain in the rear to use though... Works well if you want to clean a whole bunch of records in the same session.

I use an Okki Nokki MkII and a (Contoversial) Dr. Kirmuss RCM. I have kind of developed my own regime incorporating both machines.

VPI HW-16.5 here. I did the cooling fan mod several months ago, but haven't run a big batch of records yet to really test it.

What's the feeling on the Pro-Ject VC-S? I've got a birthday coming up and my wife is asking what I'd like.

My current record cleaning rig is a DIY ultrasonic cleaning station that I built. I was inspired by the very long DIYAudio thread started up by member bbftx. The thread link is My version of an Ultrasonic Record Cleaner - diyAudio Pictures of my build are in posts 2039,2042,2044 and 2046 (pages 204 and 205). The unit works well. I am in the process of clearing space in my shop so I can move the unit out there where smell of the isopropanol won't bug my wife and the high frequency sound won't bug the dogs. Fortunately I have a small stash of the alcohol for the cleaning solution. I suspect that I may not be able to readily purchase more of the high octane stuff due to its use in the COVID fight.IMG_6724.JPGIMG_6726.JPG

Believe it or not. Distilled water is scarce here! I am down to my last 4 gallons and am awaiting delayed shipments of vinyl before starting another cleaning run. ugh......

The last I checked my source for DI water is still open for business. FYI, the bulk water dispensers in many Whole Foods stores dispense both DI and RO water. Go for the DI, it is equivalent to distilled. Different processes that get to the same place.
