That's more a testament of the quality of these old input transformers -- a good quality, passive transformer (properly matched to your system, of course) is hard to beat when it comes to dead simple gain. I'm just a hack pluggin' em into boxes. They also make the perfect accoutrement to all the best Thanksgiving meals.
Seriously folks I bought a new preamp (a very highly regarded one) with built in MC and different loading capabilities so as to have more flexibility on carts, but just now put a Redboy 4722 sut back into play with my old preamp and it's making me re-think my decision
Welcome to the haven @Kolner , I’m curious as to the SUT you have that @Redboy ’s went up against? I also would love to hear more about your system/setup (stop by the member intro thread if you have not already done so).Hi everyone, I wanted to add some good words after purchasing a RCA MI-12399 SUT from Redboy. Construction is immaculate and the SUT sounds really good. It’s different sounding but on par with a much more expensive SUT I have here. It seems to me that Mr. Redboy has a vast knowledge of what all these SUTs sound like and that kind of experience is invaluable. :-)
