Regarding Interconnects and Speaker Cables.....

But I have to ask @Wntrmute2 , what happened when you set it on fire . Curious audiophiles want to know.
With the cotton covered silver stuff, the wire just mellted as the insulation burned! Burned rapidly buy I had anticipated that and had dampened the insulation a cm or so back. Copper may have withstood the heat better.

Aaaah, just looked it up. Copper has about 200 degree higher melting point. But man, if that cotton oil-impregnated stuff burns that hot, I’m not sure copper would have done much better.

Do you suppose two out of three is good enough? The patience thing concerns me a bit...
I have found any time a x-acto knife is entered into ANY equation, patience is a good idea. ;)

I am reminded of an interview with the great singer/songwriter/guitarist/Canadian ;) Bruce Cockburn:
Bruce never uses a plectrum or fingerpicks and plays very hard so he treats his fingernails regularly with Crazy Glue -- the application of which, he warns with a voice of experience, should "not be done when you're drunk."--from an Interview by James Jensen at Sunset Sound, Los Angeles, circa Spring 1993

This post may have a home in this thread and in iFi DAC. I’ve been playing around with Duelund wire and took a stab at a DIY stereo mini to dual RCA interconnect with 26 guage solid core tinned copper wire. Haven’t hooked up them to the DAC yet but it’s a decent effort, pic included. We shall see what they sound like but they don’t look so bad. I thought the 26 guage would be fragile but it’s pretty easy to work with. The oiled cotton sleeve, not so much.
The 26 guage wire is bundled as a pair inside 3/32” heat shrink tubing and inserted into a 3/8” braided sleeve, then both are inserted into an expandable 3/8” braided sleeve. Kind of like “turducken”. ;)

Nice work, Mike! :)

Sadly, my DIY stereo mini to dual RCA sounds like a “turducken” or maybe just “turds”. Surprisingly the Duelund sounded constrained with a rolled off high end.

Maybe they don’t like the Turducken Concept. They are OUT!

I’ve got an AudioQuest adapter and Silnote RCAs in now and it’s much better, and much better than the Cables2Go set. A little more even handed with no loss in resolution.

That's why we listen to this stuff. ;)

I'm pretty much Belden 8402 now between all sources and the Saga. Still Canare L-5CFB (also a tinned cable) between the Saga and the amp(s).

Speaker cable remains the Dueland 12ga Tinned.

Whatever amps, preamps, sources I rotate into the system, this combination seems to sound good and doesn't mess with the sound.

I will, at some point, grab a long enough pair of the 8402 to run between the Saga and the amp(s) to see if it betters the Canare.

"Tinned is in"..... :)

@TubeHiFiNut , I really like/love my DIY Deulund 20g interconnects. I didn’t overthink them, simply connected the wire to Switchcraft RCA and inserted both into a braided sleeve for a neater appearance.

Should have mentioned that I'm using Switchcraft RCAs on all the Belden 8402 Interconnects.

I will eventually get around to having some Dueland 26ga solid core ICs put together using Switchcraft RCAs. :)

Listening to the Mercury Living Presence Sebelius Symphony #3 right now and I'm really as happy as can be with everything. :)

Damn that organ sounds good.....

I won’t dismiss the 26 guage Duelund just yet. I think all of the “turducken” sandwiching might have set up some capacitance issue which resulted in the muted top end. Just a wild technically uneducated guess.

Could be....From my experience, I tend to like small gauge solid core ICs. Some of the best I've heard were made with 30ga silver plated Kynar jacketed wire wrap.

Sounds great.....not real durable. ;)

From years of experience, I can attest to the interconnects (wires) and speaker cables (cables) "merry-go-round". It can be very expensive and it seems that it's easy to go "round and round" without appreciable improvement.

My own journey has taken me through some rather expensive experements. Thankfully, I feel very comfortable with my current line-up:

Cables and Wire:
  • Belden 8402 tinned interconnects
  • Canare L5-CFB tinned interconnects
  • Dueland 16ga and 12ga tinned speaker cables
Nothing too expensive by high end measures. :)

I still connect my expensive stuff occasionally......and then hook my references back up, relax and connect with the music.

Where has your wires and cables journey taken you over the years? :)

Good evening, I'm Sean. Just today actually I bought my first "spendy" speaker cables. Over my time in this hobby I have mostly made/terminated my own wires and cables. I had a little mad money so I grabbed some Audioquest CV-8 cables, 10' long, banana plugs. Looking forward to getting them into system. So, down the rabbit hole I gooooooooooooo...

Welcome to the rabbit hole. Wire and cables can be quite an adventure. :)

Yes indeed. I've tried and have been disappointed with quite a few spendy cables, but if you buy used there is less pain when you sell.

These days a use a mix of wire that is not expensive, except for some Analysis Plus single crystal copper that I got a good deal on. The AP wire goes from preamp to amp. I also have their digital cable but Blue Jeans digital is just better in my rig. Whoda thunk. :chin
