I've only tried to build speakers from the ground up once before. IIRC, about twelve or so years ago, I tried what I thought was a simple cabinet design for a pair of small Fostexes. It did not go well. The project--which I've since dubbed my "pioneer" speakers, because they looked like something the pioneers would have built, though maybe that's an insult to pioneers--ended with me chucking the things off of my back deck in frustration.
All of that is to say that I'm no woodworker. So when I acquired a pair of 755Cs, I did it thinking that I'd pay someone to build Silbatone cabs. And I did think hard about it, knowing that whatever I built would be sort of hard for me to look at without noting their imperfections. But these days I'm aiming for a little more self-reliance and a little less perfectionism, so I found a pretty good deal on our local CL for a table saw and gave it a shot.
Some things I didn't do so well, but I didn't hurt myself and I also didn't throw them off of my back deck. Still waiting for some wire and some cabinet lining before I'll be able to give them a listen. And I'll eventually put some kind of finish on the wood.
Mainly, I wanted to post here to say thanks to J-ROB, Stefano Bae, and the Silbatone crew for the design and making it available. And thanks to je2a3 for publicizing it on his excellent blog, without which I wouldn't have known about it.
