Delighted to share that I successfully ripped my first SACD with the BDP-S490 which I picked up from eBay for €59!!
Everything went as explained on this thread and another one, which happens to use this exact player.

Just one panic moment (perhaps worth sharing how important it is to follow the steps exactly): When I started the rip process, all devices connected to the same Ethernet switch lost connectivity. Turned out that I had forgotten to put the player in sleep mode!! Everything worked after I did that.

A humble bow to @MikeyFresh for this thread!

Welcome to HFH, and the SACD ripping club!

I am perplexed by an error. I have successfully used SACDExtract before but I have set up a new USB stick and everything (I hope) but when I ping the Oppo 103d it says packets sent and received 3 but I keep getting [Failure] Port 2002 of 192.168.1.21 is inaccessible.

I deleted the auto script on the usb and installed a new copy, double checked everything. I just don't know.

Welcome to HFH.

You need to enter the correct path to the sacd_extract.exe file in the Program field using the Browse button. Currently you have that pointed at the .jar file which is incorrect (erase that).

If you don't have an sacd_extract.exe file, grab the latest updated -107 version from EuFlo's Github (scroll to the very bottom to reveal the assets).

That should be the only issue, however to know for sure we'd need to see a screenshot of your USB thumb drive's folder structure too.

Thank you.

I pointed to the sacd_extract.exe

I installed a fresh copy of the Autoscript on the USB because I remember you wrote, I believe, that if that is corrupted it could lead to weird problems.

Thank you

I tested it again and again the port 2002 is inaccessible

The screenshot of your flash drive does not show us the contents in that particular view, we need to see the contents/what is inside of that folder.

It is not at all common for that to have been corrupted, however it's not impossible for the download itself to go awry, or the flash drive itself can become faulty (some flash memory sectors unusable). Still, it's a tiny folder, you don't need a lot of useable space on that flash drive.

Hi, just wanted to say thanks for the thread and all the work that Mikey and others have put into this!

I found a BDP-S390 locally for $20 on Friday. Thought I’d have to spend the whole weekend figuring this out, but it wasn’t so bad. Definitely had a few stumbles along the way, but was pleasantly surprised to be ripping my first SACD within a couple hours.

Flew through the first 21 SACDs then hit a brick wall. Everything simply quit working. Had 8 browser tabs open at one point, from this thread and others, just to jump back and forth to try to figure out my issue. Still no joy.

I’d pretty much given up, so registered here on Saturday to ask for help. Never did ask though, as I guess I’m too stubborn to give up.

Anyway, I’m embarrassed to say the only problem was that the 22nd SACD I was trying to rip… was actually a CD! D’oh! And I think that my persistent efforts to rip it, with much inserting and reinserting of the USB stick, must have messed up the RAM in the player, because even real SACDs would no longer work afterwards.

But, problem figured out regardless. Unplugged the machine for a while, then started over with fresh AutoScript files on a fresh USB stick and… success!

Back in business and it’s been smooth sailing since. Thanks again!

Welcome to HFH and the SACD ripping club too! I'm glad you got everything sorted out and are able to rip your SACDs.

I would like to start by saying thanks MikeyFresh you have provided a real service to everyone here over the years.

This is the contents of the Autoscript folder. I was worried about clicking into it before.

It's OK to click the AutoScript folder, what you don't want/need to do is click into any of its files, because one errant keystroke will break the script.

Everything looks good there, so the only thing left to check with an Oppo player are the unit's settings with regard to Auto play, and Auto Resume. Both of those settings need to be disabled, the player can't be trying to auto-do anything with the disc or it interferes with the ripping process.

I have Auto Play and Auto Resume both off.
Sacd Priority is Multi-channel
Sacd output is Auto
Standby Mode is Quick Start
My Network is ON
Internet connection is Ethernet
IP Setting is on Auto
Connection Test is Successful

I pulled the cord after the last time I plugged in the USB. Reset Factory Defaults???

Which Oppo player model do you have?

Absolutely no reason to have to do any factory reset, don't bother.

Oppo 103d

It just occurred to me that I do have a region free mode attached to it.
That should not make a difference, others have used a region free firmware and still been able to rip SACD, however I'd have no way of knowing what your specific firmware is doing or not doing there, and it is possible a non-stock firmware could be a problem.

You've used this unit in the past to rip SACD with that same firmware?

I didn't change the firmware. It is an external mod that is attached to a USB port of the Oppo 103d. I have used this player in the past maybe a couple of years ago with no problems and I can't remember if I detached the mod or not. It has no problems playing sacd's.

Hi All! So - it's been a few years since I ripped an SACD; I typically do it with my old PS3; I got my Dire Straits - On Every Street SACD in today and for whatever reason, the PS3 only sees the CD layer. While troubleshooting, I landed here :). So after some reading, I purchased an old Sony BDP-S590.

Now - I know there's 200+ pages of posts here. Presumably the step-by-step directions here somewhere - would anyone mind pointing me to the pertinent 'how-to' replies posts? At a high level it sounds like I need software, a script, and a thumb drive, setting quick start on, etc. ?

Thanks!
Praz

Welcome! I just got that unit working as well. Try these posts in this thread:

Older set up instructions with some updates. This will put you on the right track for the USB drive and files

This post explains the SACD GUI Java program that is the current best practice for ripping

And see my narrative of my mistakes and successes:

Key things to understand and do
1. USB drive, at 32GB or smaller, FAT32 formatted + correct Autoscript folder/files (see first post above). The files are old but correct.
2. Set up Sony player to be ready to rip: Fixed IP address (or autoset at your router), fast start mode (turn off sleep mode), ensure multi channel layer is set for SACDs (vs CD or stereo layer - even for SACDs with only stereo), and disable autostart so discs inserted do not get read immediately. You can find all of these in the settings and you can also search this thread for "S590" for more posts on it.
3. SACD Extract downloaded (also see first post)
4. SACDExtractGUI downloaded and installed (and Java correctly installed and running on your machine too). with SACD_Extract linked in this program by navigating to the file in your OS. (You need the GUI to point to the correct file even if in the same folder.) See second linked post.
5. Enter IP of the Sony set in step 2 into the GUI. Test the ping.
6. Turn on the Sony with the drive empty. Insert the USB into the front port. The drive door should open on its own. You can do the 2002 port test in the GUI if you want.
7. Place a SACD in the drive door and turn off the player. The door will close and the unit will flash a bit before going dark. The unit should be in quick start mode now if you set the player up right.
8. On the GUI, decided on your options. You can rip the DSF files or an ISO or both. (If you do ISO+DSF, which is what I do, the ISO will be created from the disc, and the DSF files will be created from that ISO.) Set other options like destination location. Hit RUN. A few minutes later, you should have the SACD backed up.
5. See the last post for the steps I went through and to avoid my mistakes.

Others can provide more links too, but you probably only need this info to find the right info. Also, if you read the first 3-4 pages of posts and the last 3-4, you will also see most of this information as well.

Hope that helps.

Because we have a lot of different permutations covered here, i.e. there are 3 different computer operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), 2 different ripping methods (local and network), and 11 different Blu-ray player brands across 40 different player models, no there isn't just one step-by-step instruction.

The specifics vary only a little bit, but we'd need to know a little more about your setup than just Sony BDP-590. What computer OS are you using, and can you use the preferred network server method, or were you hoping to use the local (PS3-like) method?

The AutoScript folders for use on the USB flash drive in the Blu-ray player are different depending on which method you are using, and the setup on macOS and Linux is a bit different than Windows when using the network server method.
