sorry if i didn't report accurately. i am using a sony bdp s5100 connected wirelessly to a router while my pc is connected to that same router wired. but here's the catch. that router is being used as a hub and is connected to the main isp provided modem/router wired. i have disabled my firewall while the sony bdp is connected to an lg led tv which also has wireless capability. i used fing and it doesn't report the tv. the rest are fine : my pc, the linksys router(hub), the sony bdp, the isp modem/router.
This setup should work, please post a screenshot of your USB flash drive folder structure, and also the GUI's settings.

A friend has lent me her Sony BDP-S1200, which plays SACD;s fine.
Unfortunately not, that Sony model has been tested and shown to be incompatible, and it is not SACD compatible at all.

In that model range, only the S6200/7200 are capable of playing (and thus ripping) an SACD. The rest of those models including the S1200 you mentioned can only read the Redbook CD layer of a hybrid disc, they will not play the SACD layer at all. The same is true of the S3200 and S5200, they are not SACD compatible, the best they can do is read the Redbook CD layer of a hybrid disc.

I don't know except to say that behavior is typical of the disc not being an SACD, or the disc containing special non-English characters in the metadata. AutoRip refuses such discs.

Can you actually play an SACD on your 103, where the front panel display actually shows SACD while playing?

Yes Mikey, all the dozen discs I have are definitely SACD's - 'SACD' in the display when the disc loads, 'SACD' when they are playing. Auto-play and auto-resume settings are off. They are mostly hybrids, but 2 are SACD-only, and all are from a variety of places/release years. It's just possible that I have 3 duff USB drives, that AutoScript doesn't like (they are all quite old, but certainly all MBR and ExFat (though not Fat32) so tomorrow I am going out to buy a completely fresh, new one.

OK, my concern was that perhaps the laser was refusing to read the SACD layer a hybrid disc, though that is not common with Oppo players, but sometimes when the laser is getting tired and close to failure the player will read the CD layer only. Pioneer players are in particular prone to that.

Good idea, it never hurts to try a fresh USB drive and there are many cases reported over the years that for whatever reason certain flash drives won't work, and once substituted for the process goes off without any further hitches. Fingers crossed!

Hello everyone,
Newbie here fairly pc ignorant, I was wondering if there is a step by step instructions to rip multichannel SACDs to my computer?
I don’t really want to read through the entire thread!

Also what software will I need to playback the rip I assume Apple Music won’t work?

In addition are there any AV Processor than can read DSD files or discs!

No there aren't. With the Sony brand of Blu-ray player now having 19 different compatible models alone, and 36 compatible player models total across 11 different brands, the instructions are not the same for every player.

Add to that there are two different methods: the network server method (album folders written to a network storage destination), and the local method (album folders written to the USB thumb drive), plus 3 different computer operating systems in Windows, Mac, and Linux, and there is no chance at having one single set of step-by-step instructions.

You would not need to read every single post, it's usually pretty easy to parse through and read only the ones that look relevant to your specific use case, and the site's Search function does work very well in helping find things. Once found, the Bookmark function makes those posts of interest easy to revisit.

That said, if you tell us which Blu-ray player brand/model you have, and which computer OS is in use, we can usually point you to a small handful of posts that provide the necessary details.

No Apple Music is not DSD compatible. Again we'd need to know what OS is in use as the player software recommendations and options differ, depending on whether you use Windows, Mac, or Linux.

More importantly, both that question and the one about using an AV processor do not belong in this ripping thread which is dedicated to the specific topic of ripping SACD. We have a separate thread called DSD playback options which is appropriate for any playback related questions.

Nope, no dice on the fresh USB drive I bought. If it won't work on a totally new, unrelated drive, sure it must be something about the player - the laser itself perhaps as you mentioned?

As it was starting to feel like I was gaslighting myself (!) I got a tech-savvy friend to help me today, and go through each stage to it's eventual (failed) result. As the network method also didn't work (although my machine's IP address was recognised by Fing), it's pointing to the laser as being the single weak link. The machine plays Bluray discs, and has been fine with SACD/DVDA playback, although maybe that aspect of the machine is being problematic. I will go and test it on my TV.

If it will play an SACD, then it should rip an SACD.

What about EugenF's question above, is it possible this machine is a 203 and not the 103?

Eugen - you are right! It IS a 203! I'd not even thought to check as I was always convinced it was a 103. I don't see it listed on the AutoRip graphic, so I guess I can't use this machine to rip. Wow, please excuse my not being able to tell '2' from '1'

Well on one hand I am jealous, the 203 is a fabulous machine and they are very difficult to find now with Oppo Digital having ceased operations and discontinued their disc player line. Even when one comes up for sale 2nd hand, they are VERY expensive.

On the other hand I'm sorry you have an incompatible player, but there are plenty of inexpensive options to choose from on the compatibility list, you ought to be able to scan the 2nd hand listings and get something suitable if you keep your eye out. Good luck and keep us posted!

Thank you (and the others) once again for helping me through an interesting week or so. It's great to get educated! I will research the options for an alternative player.

OK great, at the top of the GUI in the Program field, re-specify the path to the sacd_extract.exe file using the Browse button (overwrite what is currently in that field).

That should do it, however after previous failed attempts, it is best to power cycle the S5100 (with flash drive removed), and after replacing the AC cord, allow the initial boot sequence to take place (watch the front panel LED display).

When the display goes dark, turn the S5100 ON and insert the flash drive, the disc tray will auto-open, place a disc in the tray and press OFF to close the tray, then again watch the LED display flash OFF, when it goes dark, Run the rip.

All of the above assumes you had already put the S5100 into Quick Start mode.

hi mikey

If it won't Ping that is a network issue, we can't solve any complex network arrangement you might have.

Backing up, please double check to be sure you have the correct IP address assigned to the player.

Also, I see in your screenshot from earlier that the AutoScript folder has been named with all lower case characters, and while that alone should not cause an issue, it calls into question what other poking around in those files you might possibly have done.

If there is any chance at all that curiosity got the best of you and you started to click into the files on the flash drive, delete that entire folder and start over there with a clean write of the Pioneer-Sony AutoScript folder, as any clicking around in there might have resulted in a broken script.

If the player and computer are on the same subnet, there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to Ping the player unless the IP address has changed. That is not an SACD ripping issue at all, that is a network configuration issue of some kind.

hi mikey
sorry to be much of a bother. i used fing and it pings now. i got that application from you. i would also appreciate it if you would supply me the link to the download of the autoscript folder. it pings fine now but the test says that the site can't be opened. i really hope i haven't been much of a problem. much obliged

hi mikey
i found out that there is a search bar at the top of the page. i found the autoscript link with it. i deleted the old one and replaced it with that. of course i had to unzip it first(?) and place it in the properly titled folder. i must apologize for my 'spotty' english. it sometimes sends a different (implicit) meaning which is unintended. i hope you'll bear with me.

No problem man, we understand. Unzip and place the proper AutoScript folder on your USB flash drive.

Then just Run the rip.
