Hi Tom - welcome to HFH.

Don't worry, you've got the project 99% completed, and you appear to have the Program field pointed correctly.

The clue for what is wrong lies in the file description for sacd_extract, it describes as a Document or text file. That means you haven't made it executable, which is an additional step required on both macOS and Linux (but not Windows), because it isn't commercial software with a signed certificate from a known developer. Both macOS and Linux turn it into a text file on download as a security feature.

The fix is easy and then you are in business, open Utilities → Terminal and type the following command:
Code:
chmod +x

Followed by a single space, then drag and drop the sacd_extract file onto the Terminal window. The file path populates automatically. Press Enter.

Thats it, all done, you can close Terminal and the file will now describe as a Unix executable. All good to go, now just Run a rip.
It's all working, I've now got it running on my PC as I'm working on it anyway. Really appreciate your help.

Tom

is there any recommended software for playback? I’ve found myself in this position as my SACD Player suddenly stopped recognising the hybrid layer of most discs. Glad my Blu-Ray is finally getting some use after all these years though!
For that one we'll need to take it over to the DSD playback options thread, as this one is dedicated to the ripping task itself.

There are many options for both macOS, and Windows, however we'd need to get an idea of what kind of setup you aim to have in terms of local playback, or playback over the network to a separate endpoint/streamer.

Again, those discussions are best had in the playback thread, in order to keep this one tidy with information only related to the actual ripping process itself.

Thats really too bad about your SACD player, but fortunately there is now a solution in the event your player can't be repaired, or it's too expensive/doesn't make sense to invest anymore in it.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I seem to have found something, but I'd like to be able to access them on the network as well as just being able to play them on the PC.

Hi Mikey,

Thanks so much for your reply. I agree, have to pick this apart one step at a time, so I'll focus first on AutoRip.

  1. I am using a 256 GB USB stick formatted as NTFS and using MBR.
  2. I downloaded SACD_Autorip_A4.ZIP from the u.plcoud.link site
  3. I extracted the zip file to the USB stick. Which created an AutoScript folder containing 3 files:
    1. Autorip.sh (dated 3/8/2019)
    2. Autoscript (dated 3/15/2019)
    3. sacd_extract_160 (dated 12/22/2015)
  4. I followed these instructions for using A4:
  • 1. Turn on the player and insert the USB flash drive
  • 2. Tray will auto-open
  • 3. Place the disc within 10 SECONDS onto the tray, which will auto-close
  • 4. ISO-Ripping will commence - observe disc spinning noise & USB flash drive LED activity
  • 5. Disc will be ejected as soon as the ripping has finished
Note: I disconnect and reconnect power before executing the above instructions, just to clear the deck.

Basically, the tray never opens (as the instructions say it will) and nothing further happens. The messages on the Yamaha screen are:
  • No Disc
  • USB IN
  • No Disc
The machine remains in that state until it finally shuts itself off (i.e. times out).

Note: None of my USB Sticks have lights, so there is no way to check drive activity.

That should work, but clearly the script is not being read at all if the disc tray will not auto-open.

I suggest trying a different USB flash drive, it is possible the one you have already tried has a hidden primary partition or something to that effect, making it incompatible.

The disc tray not opening is a failure to ignite, nothing can happen before that does.

Have you tried both the front and the rear USB port? It is possible the port you are attempting to use is dead.

Odd, it was a brand new USB stick. I had tried both ports. Anyway, I copied the Autorip files do a different USB and sure enough, the tray did open. I placed a SACD on it and then it did close. I think I was putting it in too soon. So far, it's been running for 40 mins. so I don't think it's ripping.

The entire folder called AutoScript, right? You can't just have the files, you need that enclosing folder and it must be called AutoScript, you can't rename it.

40 minutes is too long, even a long play time disc with both stereo and surround content should be finished in under 30 minutes.

Yes, in the AutoScript folder. I've had some success. Just trying to replicate now. I found an ISO file on the USB in the AutoScript file. Is the GUI supposed to be able to read that file off the USB while it's in the Server, or am I supposed to copy the files off the USB to the working directory?

Copy the ISO file off the USB drive, then put the GUI in File mode to extract DSF from it. You can then put the USB drive back to work ripping another ISO.

Alternatively, we can also get the Server mode working to rip an SACD right over the network, using the Pioneer-Sony version of AutoScript, but you'll need to power cycle the S677 to clear the A4 script from it's RAM.

Yes, that's next. I really prefer server mode because I have no need for the entire ISO as I only want to do 2-channel playback. I think the brand of USB might have something to do with, OR, the fact that it was a USB 3.0 drive, and the one that works is a USB 2.0 drive. Who knows. Next, SERVER-MODE!

Thanks for your speedy assistance!!

Neither the brand, nor USB 2.0 vs. 3.0 should make any difference, however we have definitely had a number of members find success just by switching the flash drive in use.

The only thing that makes much sense there is certain drives may have a hidden primary partition which makes them incompatible, as the AutoScript folder must reside on the primary partition or it won't work.

My pleasure with the assistance, and good luck with the server method.

So far, it appears that .DSF files have been established in my specified working directory, but they are all 1KB in size. After 50mins., the tray still has not opened. However, I have not yet hit "Run" on the GUI as I'm not sure why I'm supposed to do this.

I do not understand this post at all and kindly remind you there are two separate methods available, please don't mix them when referring to behaviors.

I think you might be referring to use of the GUI to extract DSF from the ISO you found on the flash drive used for AutoRip A4? If so, lets backup and ask what size is that ISO? I'm trying to determine if that ISO ever finished properly, or if it was corrupted in some way.

Hitting Run on the GUI is where you lose me, your last post prior to this most recent one said you were moving on past AutoRip to the Server method. If that were configured correctly, you would hit Run to initiate a rip over the network.

However, that same Run button is used when extracting DSF files from an exiting ISO using the GUI's File mode.

So what are you trying to do in hitting the Run button, extract DSF from an ISO that you ripped using AutoRip A4? Or are you trying to initiate a rip using the network server method and the Pioneer-Sony AutoScript (read: not AutoRip A4) version?

I apologize. I thought we were on the same page when we discussed moving on to getting the server mode working. However, you did answer my question with : "Hitting Run on the GUI is where you lose me, your last post prior to this most recent one said you were moving on past AutoRip to the Server method. So to clarify, my prior message pertained to server mode (not A4 Ripping). I am trying now to initiate a rip using the network server method and the Pioneer-Sony AutoScript. I simply didn't know when to hit "run."

Again, my thanks. If you were confused, Mikey, you still answered my question. Great!!

Can you post a screenshot of your GUI settings?

If not, just confirm that you have specified the path sacd_extract in the Program field using the Browse button.

You previous posted was confusing because you said you had DSF files that were all 1kb in size (clearly something wrong there), and that you had waited 50 minutes for the disc tray to open (also clearly something wrong there) but the disc tray only auto-opens at the conclusion of an AutoRip, hence my confusion as you were supposed to be embarking on the server method.

To restate - the following results from using Server-mode.

Yes, I have specified the path for the sacd_extract program and used the "test" button to confirm working.

The tray door still hasn't opened. That's why I was confused about when to press "Run" because I thought it would be AFTER the tray opened. The files on my PC are all 1KB. Here is the log from the GUI after pressing run. I'm only showing 1 track because it is basically the same for each track.

You still lost me there.

When you insert the Pioneer-Sony AutoScript used for the network server method with the S677, the disc tray will auto-open, and after placing a disc in the tray, you manually press Close, then Run the rip.

The GUI will show that rip in progress, and at the conclusion of the rip, it will indicate Done. The disc tray does NOT then auto-open at the rip conclusion like it does with AutoRip.

I have absolutely no idea what you are referring to when you say the files are all 1kb, certainly they are not given the first track (1/20) is showing a completion after 6890 frames processed. Thats not a 1kb file.

That said, I also don't know why you say "I'm only showing 1 track" as the next line shown shows 0 frames out of 4259 processed, ostensibly that was the second track (2/20) and it was either aborted, or it bombed all on its own, which one occurred?

For total clarity here, when using the network server method you are not writing the tracks to the flash drive as you are when using the local (AutoRip) method.

Instead, when using the network server method you are writing the tracks to whatever Output directory you specified in the GUI, and if you specified nothing in that field, then the program will automatically default to writing the tracks to your SACDExtractGUI folder in lieu of any other instruction.

Yes I can point you to the scripts you should try, however there are no posted instructions for the UHP-H1 player as we have only had a couple of people mention any success with it, and they did not post any step-by-step instructions, but we can piece it together from what we know about other similar models.

The first and easiest is something called AutoRip A6-archaic. This method will write a full ISO disc copy directly to the USB flash drive, the so-called local method, so the flash drive you use will need some free storage capacity available. I suggest at least a 16GB capacity drive for use with AutoRip, though 8GB will also work but it will likely only hold one such ISO.

Once you've got AutoRip A6-archaic running, then we can circle back to the network server method and have a go at that one too.

From the AutoRip Instructions.txt:

1. Turn on the player and insert the USB flash drive

2. Tray will auto-open (Slot-in drives will only produce a rattling noise)

3. Place the disc within 10 SECONDS onto the tray, which will auto-close (In case of slot drive mechanism, slide in the disc as soon as you hear the rattling sound of an empty eject attempt)

4. Wait until the disc has been recognized, hit the PLAY and shortly afterwards the STOP button

5. Change the SACD channel output setting (2CH <-> MultiCH) from the player's On Screen Display menu (within 30 SECONDS), and DO NOT return to the home menu

6. ISO-Ripping will commence - observe disc spinning noise & USB flash drive LED activity

7. Disc will be ejected as soon as the ripping has finished

Let's try the above first, rather than make a very lengthy post about all options available. At the conclusion you should see an ISO on your flash drive when viewed on your computer.

To make this test easy and fast, choose a disc that is stereo only, and does not have any "special" non-English characters present in the metadata, as that can trip up AutoRip, and let us know how it goes. This is the method that the other guy in the EU definitely had reported working with an EU-model H1 that lacks Quick Start mode and thus cannot use any sleep method.

Good evening @MikeyFresh,
thank you very much for the instruction and the many informations.
I am looking forward to test it. Hopefully, I will find some time to test it tomorrow and will come back to the topic.

Have a nice evening and best regards
