SACD RIPPING with Sony BDP-S7200 / same AutoScript for standalone and server solution?

Hi,

Tomorrow or the day after tomorrow comes my used sony player, which I hope I can finally rip my SACDs to hard drive.

On the PC side, I understood everything so far (Java, GUI, extract.exe, etc.).

But what is on the USB stick at the Front of the player?

A

in the standalone solution, i.e. without a PC:
only the AutoScript folder, right?

B

But what is on the USB stick with the server solution (i.e. with connection to the PC with Java, GUI etc.?

Also the AutoScript folder or no AutoScript folder or a completely different script (files)?

I have not yet completely understood, because if the AutoScript folder would be on the USB stick in both cases, the Sony Player would start ripping in both cases and the server solution could no longer be used to start the process via the GUI ?

Would be very nice if someone could explain the difference for both variants regarding the content of USB
That's all!

Thank you very much and have fun listening to music.

Welcome Mathias!

With regard to your upcoming SACD ripping project using a Sony S7200, there are two ways you can do this and they use two different versions of the AutoScript. It sounds as if the seller of that machine is including a USB flash drive with what you are calling a "standalone" solution, that is probably AutoRip A3, but we won't really know for sure until that flash drive can be examined.

AutoRip writes a full archival ISO (disc copy minus any Redbook material) directly to the flash drive, and thus is considered standalone or self-contained ripping. You don't need a GUI for that, however you would still need the GUI to split that ISO's stereo tracks from the multichannel for instance. AutoRip A3 used to be the preferred way to rip with an S7200, as the original script for the alternative (the server method using the GUI) was a bit fussy and inconsistent to use.

Last September the flaws in the original server script for the S7200 were very graciously fixed by our member friend in Prague, so AutoRip A3 is now not the best way to rip using an S7200 anymore, using the revised server script is currently a superior way to rip with an S7200 in my opinion.

The server method using the GUI is best on the S7200 because it allows for additional functionality, and crucially, it seems the server method is able to rip certain problem discs that were stubbornly refusing the AutoRip method for reasons we are not entirely sure of, but probably related to use of special characters in the disc authoring.

So to answer your question, we can examine the contents of the flash drive you receive with that S7200 and probably determine which script it is, but I'd think it's just easier to wipe it clean and use the scripts we have linked to here, as that removes any guess work.

The server method script for the S7200 is found on Page 2 of the thread in Post #26. That is the script you would use with the GUI to run the rips over your network.

If you wanted to also try a self-contained or "standalone" rip to archival ISO using AutoRip A3, no problem, either you will already have that script on the flash drive the seller is providing, or we can just wipe that drive clean and not guess at it, by writing a new fresh/clean AutoRip A3 script to it. The Post #544 details use of AutoRip A3 on an S7200.

If you do wish to try both methods it is advisable to have more than one flash drive, and mark them in some way for easy identification. Here is what my crazy bag of tricks looks like (Oppo script not pictured but is present here... somewhere):

Once again welcome to HFH, see you in the ripping thread!

Has already arrived.
It is from Günter from Germany.
He told me that he was a beta tester and is now selling some of his players. It is so small our www ...
If I have time I will test the ripping as soon as possible.
Thank's for great support and your time

Best regards

Ah yes, Günter was a beta tester of the AutoRip scripts, and acquired several different Sony players for testing. He and I ran simultaneous tests of the same players and scripts on both sides of the Atlantic, proving AutoRip worked on certain player models that others did not have available for AutoRip testing.

The USB flash drive Günter included with your S7200 will either be the special server script unique to use of the S6200/7200 player, or perhaps it is AutoRip A3, but either way it will work and/or you can prepare an additional flash drive with whichever script he did not include, so that you have both ripping options available.
