A friend, who was a jazz pianist and owner of a cool recording studio, gave this to me before he unfortunately passed away. He told me that this was a favorite piece from his past, but it would require service. It took a few years to find a good tech, amazingly ended up being local, and I just got it back. It sounds wonderful to me, different but as enjoyable as my other receivers and amps (Marantz 2230, Fishers 400 and KX200, Scott 222c). CDs, the tuner and phono section are quite clear, sweet, and powerful. This was the last model (1975) that Sherwood built in the USA (Chicago) - the tech said the it was hand built and of excellent quality.
