Decided I need to keep thinning the stash. This has been sitting on the shelf for a couple months, so it’s time to move it along.

New it sells for $3000. $1300 shipped. PP F&F or you cover the fees.

Its a Justin Weber made EL-84 based push pull, tube rectified amp. This amp is a strong performer and sounds wonderful. Those excellent EL-84 kids! The amp also looks great with a solid wood walnut case and ebony corners. The fit and finish is impressive with premium parts used throughout and beefy binding posts.

15 watts with 5U4 or up to 22 watts with 5AR4 rectifier

Tubes included:

• Matched quad Sovtek EL84 plus spare quad of same.
• Matsushita 5AR4/GZ34 rectifier Japan Mullard
• CBS D/horseshoe getter 12BH7
• CBS D/horseshoe getter 12AX7

Original box/packing for safe ship.

From ampsandsound.com:

The Stereo 15 Special Edition is an EL84 ultra linear amp with 15 watts of tube bliss. 2 EL84 tubes in push-pull configuration with ½ of a 12AX7 and ½ of a 12BH7 per channel, just like our original Stereo 15. The Stereo 15 Special Edition is based on the famous Halfer circuit with cathode bias allowing trouble free operation. 8ohm and 4ohm taps with 8ohm and 16ohm combination as an option. The circuit used is widely famed for its stability and liquid midrange.

The Stereo 15 Special Edition produces perfectly stable 15 watts RMS with 42watt peaks. The output transformers utilize massive cores which resist saturation and deliver jaw dropping low end performance. Like all ampsandsound amplifiers, it is dead quiet with reliable performance. When we say dead… we mean put your ear to the mouth of your horn-loaded system and all you will hear is silence!

Never leaving well enough alone, the Special Edition is for those who demand the very last degree of performance. Where the Stereo 15 Special Edition differs is in the use of custom wound transformers made exclusively for ampsandsound. The power transformer is nearly twice as heavy as the unit used in the Stereo 15 and allows for greater current delivery/reserves and the use of a tube rectifier. We have specified the use of a GZ34, and can accommodate GZ37s; 5U4s allows NOS rectifiers.

Really? No one is tempted. I like offers. I am motivated to keep moving stuff. This pairs nicely with the Altec Valencias I have that I could sell with it. Really cool setup right there.

No one has even made an offer. I haven’t listed it elsewhere. Maybe I don’t really want to sell it... but dang. I will. Maybe.

I was just thinking "this is a rare occasion, where the item for sale actually looks nicer than the one in the manufacturer photos". I've been a fan of Ampsandsound for a while they really put the money where it counts. Somebody is going to be VERY happy.

You should have just bought both and that way in case one fell through... :-)

Well it's staying in the HFH crew, so if the new owner doesn't love it, maybe you'll still get a shot at it someday.

Gotta say, I'm a happy man, Woody! This amp coupled with my 604-8Gs has full and deep bass extension, along with liquid mids and shimmering highs. It has easily bested the other amps I have kicking around. I've wanted to try an EL 84 power amp for quite some time. Now I understand why so many like this output tube. Gotta say I love it.

Kudos for a stellar and fast packing/shipping experience - and delivery on the Sunday of a 3-day holiday weekend to boot!

Cheers,
Fran

Cool Fran! I KNOW how nice a good EL84/6BQ5 amp can be on 604-8Gs - definitely my favourite pentode power tube.

The EL84 amp I spent the most time with on my Altecs was the single-ended Almarro but damn was it good - OK, I did go back to 2A3, but I really didn't feel like I had to. :)
