Sony SS-M7: It's official, I've made it into the 1990's

And here I almost deleted it because I was in "a mood" when I wrote that. Probably drank too much or something.

If I helped pique your interest in the SS-m7s from my old comments, I hope they continue to make you happy. I don't criticize the old gear I've had out of spite or petulance, believe it or not I actually BELIEVE there is a lot better sound out there with certain gear. Just as the people recommending gear that isn't my flavor believe what they do, too...so nothing against different opinions. But I think we should all welcome opinionated beliefs and just pick that which matches up with our own experience, and then roll with it and have fun with it.

But there is a fundamental difference between your opinion, and those of so many others. Yours is borne of actual first-hand experience. You have made a point to become informed about the subject before presenting it, whereas oftentimes others merely parrot something somebody said to somebody else without ever actually listening to anything in person.

We SHOULD all welcome differing opinions as something to think about, but it seems to me that merely rolling with whatever matches our own beliefs leads to stagnation, and the sort of tribalism that is seen in so many places, especially on the web. Certainly, everybody is entitled to an opinion. Just as certainly, not all opinions should be considered by others. But expecting the population at large to act in an intellectual and considered manner is asking too much. And it's getting harder all the time to separate the wheat from the chaff, as it were.

I was, until recently, one of those "ugh, those wine snobs, it all tastes the same" folks. And then I discovered that red wine magically makes my anxiety disappear, so I started drinking more of it, and then deciding to really open my mind that some might be better, and then finding some I REALLY liked..and now? I can't drink the bad stuff. I tried drinking Yellowtail the other day and pretty much just spit it out. I don't WANT to be one of those people, I swear, I just became one and can't undo it. But man, the good stuff tastes really good now, better than I'd imagined it would. I don't know what it is? Appreciating things is weird, it sneaks up on you.

and isn't this wine experience an apt metaphor for cables, power cords, etc., and audio in general? many of us tend to just use the cheap basic stuff and doubt and scoff at the afficionados and their esoteric expensive tastes. but sometimes we get a glimpse of whats on the other side, and the we get on the path and tend to keep going deeper. and then its us scoffing at the "cheap crap" and the "cheap crap" users scoff back at us as snobs :)

I've loved my climb up the audio mountain. It's also really nice to stop along the way and enjoy the view, and that's just what I'm doing right now.

I can't think of many regrets along the way, aside from an attic full of vintage speakers. I've loved listening to others' systems as well, many of which I can never hope to attain. Generally, I go back inspired to make my system sound better. More than anything, I simply enjoy the hobby, the music, and the friends that come with it.

There can be many paths when climbing the audio mountain.
Some may stumble and find the trek too difficult to reach their goal.
Others will reach the summit and realize the long journey was worth it.
We all have to do our best with the resources we have at hand and make wise decisions.

In my younger days I did a lot of backpacking on the Appalachian trail.

An extremely capable and modern pair of speakers. I’ve always appreciated Sony’s better offerings, especially the speakers. The pair you have look to be nearly mint.

Yes, I'm really quite pleased with them. They strike a very nice balance between being fast, revealing, but also not fatiguing. These really changed my audio game for the better.
