SW1X DAC

The AA crossover has a tweeter protection circuit. PWK added it because high-power SS amps were blowing the tweeters. The A crossover doesn't. Years ago, I had the same year model speakers and rebuilt the crossovers and replaced the wiring.

Rebuilding XO's are high on my list for best bang for the buck upgrades. Wa mo betta than swapping out cables etc..

I would figure out that sibilance thing first. I dont think it's your XO's unless you see something gooey leaking out of the cracks of the caps.

Prop up some lawn furniture pillows at the first reflection on the side walls. My wife loves it when I do this!

Is the sibilance there with vinyl too?

I was going to suggest he takes care of that first reflection point as well. I'm surprised GIK didn't suggest one there.

Did you hear a big difference after rebuilding the crossovers?

Here is a link to the model of my room and what they reccomended:

I still have more work today to make the diffusion panels for behind the speakers and along the long wall. I'm not sure if I'll put the ones on the ceiling or not.

I will double check, but I didn't see anything gooey coming out of any of the capacitors in the crossover pictured.

If I had lawn furnature pillows I could do that! Thankfully this is my own room in the basement, so I don't get any guff when I experiment with things and they look weird. Hahah!

I doubt your hearing sibilance from the first reflection but it might clear things up a bit especially at higher volumes.

If it's coming out of both speakers... you have eliminated the speakers, speaker cables and interconnects.

K. I normally listen at 65-75 DB.

is there a reason you have put your la scala's on risers? I preferred mine coupled to the floor. in fact the stronger they were coupled to the floor, the better they sounded tonally.

Yes, I built the Ported Bass bin mod for the La Scalas. The ports are just facing backwards.

I changed all the parts, Jensen PIO caps that are no longer made and Goertz inductors. I also wrapped the horns with rope caulk.

These were not available when I did mine. New Crossovers | Critesspeakers.com

Are you using a USB cable to stream?
Yeah, I'd like to rebuild them myself, but the Crites are really affordable. Should I do all Russian oil caps like the one you sent me? Dunno if you changed the Jensens out for those at any point?

The rope callk you did was on the front of the horn where it meets the wood face?

There is also a guy on the Klipsch forum that makes an upgraded tweeter that I want to try at some point too. Alot of people like the update and say it has great sonic improvement.

Yes, I have either an Abbas USB running from laptop to the converter and then Spdif into the dac or a Black Cat USB running from the Rpi to the Audiophileo and then Spdif into the dac.

No, I just used the Jensens. I was not aware of the Russian KBG caps 20 years ago. I don't recall if Bob Crites was offering crossovers then. I wrapped the entire horn with rope caulk. It was supposed to eliminate ringing. But, I can't say that I heard a big difference. It was cheap and easy though. The Crites crossovers are well regarded but I have not used them. You may get more info by posting on the Klipsch forum and by calling Crites.

I'm not at all familiar with the new tweeter you mentioned.

I just read about the Audiophileo. What are you using for the Rpi power supply? That could be causing the sibilance issue. :chin

Okay, cool. Yeah, lots of info on the Klipsch Forum as well. Semms like people wrap the entire horn in dynamat now. Some people put painters tape underneath, so they can easily take it off if they don't like it or go to sell.

Info on the tweeter:

I am using the Allo Nirvana Power supply for the RPi.

I used this and it is easy on and off. M-D Building Products 1/8 in. x 90 ft. Flexible Caulking Cord Weatherstrip 71548 - The Home Depot

Nothing wrong with the Allo PS. I know zero about the new tweeters but they seem well received.

Been pricing out caps and some foil inductors to redo the crossover. Woooowza! Those components are pretty expensive or have gotten expensive. Hopefully it will be worth it thoguth once I collect all the parts.
