The Mavericks just had a three-night run at ACL Live doing an acoustic show. The preview didn't show the audience, but from what I gather, the audience was seated at tables that were spaced appropriately. (Raul Malo is a stickler for protocol--as he says in the preview, "Get the f**kin' vaccine." 🤣 He made it clear that in order to have a Mavericks gig, people need to be able to gather, and to gather, we all need to get the vaccine.) Typically a Mavs show is three hours of standing up and dancing, packed together in seats, so this is a departure yet still gets them back out in front of the fans, with a promise of things to come. I'd love to go to their gig at The Ryman in December but don't know if I can make it down there at that time.
I've seen them a couple times, fantastic show for sure.
Got my 2nd phiser shot Wednesday and my arm itching like bee sting all day today.
Can't wait to see some live music again....

Still burns my walnuts to hear of these parents and schools who selfishly refuse to set their sports programs back by a few weeks so the cases can decline. The damned parents were pushing hard to get the kids back in sports. Was it really that important? Hardly.

Well, not me, but it's pretty apparent around here that a lot of folks don't share that opinion about sports

Yeah, I just don't get it. It's not like the sports are cancelled for the season. They were asked to delay things a couple of weeks. What's so important that they can't pause for a bit and resume the schedule? 🤷‍♂️ Not a big deal since it doesn't directly affect me, but it just highlights the selfish attitudes so many have had during this past year. Sure, I realize they're all tired of COVID. But, aren't we all?

I’ve found my new home away from home. I’m not trying this brag about getting out of the house. Just feeling that there’s HOPE for normalcy even among people taking this seriously (notice the mask on the bass player). Come join me! This place is GREAAT.
Wait...the sax isn't masked...? 😁

It's on my short list to catch a nearby Mavericks gig one of these days. My better half has only overheard me playing some of their tunes, but I have a feeling once she gets to a show, she'll be the bigger fan. I've got a couple others earmarked for when they tour again (Four80East, and Nik Bärtsch's Ronin if they ever return to the US to tour again in the not-too-distant future).

Just glanced at the news ( not necessarily a good thing these days), and resulting from a spreader event at a Calgary restaurant there is a class-action lawsuit being filed. Claim is that the restaurant didn't take the proper precautions. Amount: $17M. This is a fair sized chain with a bunch of locations in Canada, and a few each in Seattle and LA.

No idea how this will go except the lawyers will do well.

Got my shot, was a little early, so asked if they could poke my wife too - which they did. Cool.

(and yes, that does sound a little off...)

I asked about the 71% efficacy rate of AstraZeneca; the nurse said "yes, supposed to be about that for catching it, but close to 100% efficacy at keeping you from getting seriously sick or dying from this stuff".

Works for me.

That was exactly what happened with us as well. I was going in to get my shot and told the pharmacist that my wife was with me. He said "sure, why not?". It is a good thing for us to be on the same schedule, definitely. As to the AZ jab - it is actually supposed to have great efficacy with some of the new virus mutations than the mRNA varieties so there is an up-side.

Funny because I was thinking that if that dude had the rona the sax was like a canon shooting my way.
Awesome place otherwise. Such a great time.
Trumpets are good Rona-shooters, even better than woodwinds, since none of the Rona will ooze out of the keyholes.

Quite a culture can grow inside horns. Don't ask how I know that...

Oh lord - one of my jobs at the end of each year in high school was to help clean out the larger brass instruments, odd given that I didn't play any of them. The things found in tubas... someone's lunch, a bra and panties...

I tried playing our school's baritone sax once. First time I inhaled I nearly puked in the band room. First and last time I ever touched that vile thing. (I don't think anyone in 20 years had ever emptied the neck using the spit valve.) If there were ever a primordial soup that created COVID, that right there would be a top candidate. 🤢

21 hours after jab #2, I feel like I've been punched in the arm, but otherwise not feeling much different. In fact, feeling a little less fatigued than I was after the first one. Slight headache, but I also fell asleep in the recliner last night again, and it feels like one of those headaches where my neck was at some odd angle that necks should never be at.

So yeah...this thing will probably hit me like a baseball bat around dinnertime tonight. 😁

Wish it was so easy going and pragmatic here! Vaccinations are proceeding very slowly in Germany. Still waiting to receive my appointment after registering online.

Yesterday this story went through some news portals: a guy, not very far from my place, was invited to receive his first shot. When he arrived in the vaccination center, the staff re-checked his data and he was told that he was too young to be on the priority list: by three days!
After yome debate around the staff, the center manager was asked for his opinion, and he decided that they could not interfere with the priority rules. He was sent home without his shot to make a new appointment.

Why he was invited 'early' after all, three days before his 60th birthday, reportedly remained unclear.

This is Germany. All in all my country definitely has more benefits than drawbacks to live in, but German bureaucracy is absolutely terrible.

Sitting in the observation area after getting my second Pfizer jab and I’m feeling almost giddy. Hmmmm... wonder if that’s a possible side effect of the vaccine.
