Both my kiddos have had it--not sure when/where my oldest got hers, but my youngest was eligible since she works in the Big City (even though it's just a work study position), and she had to go to the TCF center last week to get her jab. Her connection was through the school, so that's how she was able to jump in and get it sooner than the general population.

Some healthcare workers we know have gotten theirs as well. All through their workplaces. So it's going well. On the flip side, there are still seniors with no Internet access or smartphone (or even a computer) to try to look for one, and find that the phone lines are usually busy.

Remember the Swim Mobile that they had back in the old days? Maybe they need the Jab Mobile now...? Or Needles On Wheels? 😁
Ask and ye shall receive: NYC's New Mobile Vaccine Bus Aims To Reach Vulnerable New Yorkers

Them crafty New Yorkers. Amazing what you can do if you actually have a decent supply of vaccines.

Every large urban center in the U.S. should be doing this, and probably rural areas as well. I think about my own situation where I am blessed to be able to work from home, and also have had the means and time to search for a vaccine appointment... contrast that to hourly workers, seniors, the poor (both urban and rural) and it's obvious the rollout of the vaccines has not been equitable.

Fingers crossed you finally get an abundance up your way soon!

A pal in the Toronto area says they're starting to ramp things up a bit (that was towards the end of March). Another I know is on a waiting list for her jab, but no concrete date as of yet. I figure the dam has to break up there soon!

I was downtown Detroit walking along the Riverfront ant there was the TCF center running cars through their vaccination center as we walked by. Excellent to see the vaccine available in different arenas. At first it was only available through the big hospital organizations but the state soon realized that not everyone (blacks, browns, etc.) were not part of these big hospital centers and began distributing vaccine to alternative sites. Good work or recognizing the problem Michigan! Our Governor got her vaccine today as well.

Here there needs to be more of an outreach into disadvantaged communities as they're the worst hit, and are the least likely to want the vaccine. To the point that for awhile the open secret in Chicago was that you could easily get a vaccine as long as you went to one of the hospitals in the worst neighborhoods. One of our friends did that, just called up and walked in. They had plenty of vaccine, but no demand. So it wasn't lack of supply.

Hopefully as more see that we are not becoming mutants, the hesitancy will diminish. I was at at the Docs the other day and the very young woman taking my information told me her mother told her the vaccine MIGHT prevent her from getting pregnant. She had decided against getting the vaccine based on that. I wanted to slap her.

I still can't get over the people thinking its a way to track you. And they talk about such things on THEIR PHONES. With all location services and tracking on, while using an app that collects things about you that nothing flowing through your own blood would ever have access to.

I've not become a mutant. Yet. Which kind of bums me out because maybe if I did, I'd finally have a life worth tracking....

When I was getting on my flight to Colombia in Houston two months ago, for the first time they didn't ask for my boarding pass at the gate. They had a scanner that scanned my face and knew it was me. So.... yeah. Pretty sure they don't need a chip in my blood.

Though, again, I probably could be convinced that Microsoft really just wanted something that would cause Teams to take off and take over... :)

I had the Barbie head removed and things seem to be going fine now. I feel good.

Today's news from the gov't included a few things, but I only noticed a couple. 1) The Province is moving from Step 2 of the re-opening plan back to Step 1 which is more restrictive. This is a good thing as the variants are really ramping up.

2) People in my age bracket can now register for the AstraZeneca shot.

I'm registered and waiting for my appointment. :jump

This seems to be a similar issue here as despite probably the most focused efforts in the state for vaccination, Detroit proper has perhaps the lowest vaccination rate in the state at 10%.
I've watched as there have been multiple programs and sites rolled out there, but the numbers aren't there.
Part of the issue is some spots are being taken by those who work in Detroit, but live in the suburbs. I think the news reported 1,000 shots daily at Ford Field, which sounds impressive, but they are scaled to 3,000.
Hopefully folks will find a way to get a shot as hospitals in Detroit are filling up.

Somebody who had been a kind of mentor to my wife back in Colombia when she was growing up died yesterday from Covid. This damned virus. Very sad evening here, she adored that man. A tragic reminder that this is far from over.

Interesting. Apparently Ontario, CA has deemed that only essential items are for sale and Costco there have had to block off entire parts of " the warehouses that offer "non-essential" goods. Categories of products have been provided to Costco Canada of "non essential" goods and those items have been blocked from sale in the cash registers in Ontario and perhaps Quebec.

Some pics from some Ontario stores

They did something like that here for a very short time at the beginning of the lockdown, at Target at least. Could only buy cleaning supplies and I think food. I’d forgotten about that. That’s a pretty serious move. I’m glad I didn’t have to be the one categorizing it all in the stock database.

The way they explained it in Michigan is they were trying to prevent people from flocking to stores for "frivolous" purchases. Those were my words, not our Governor's. I happen to support that position. These are "emergency" measures. Garden supplies are not emergency supplies. I happen to love our Governor - Big Gretch.
